The CT Technologists demonstrates an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology. The CT Technologists maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique. The CT Technologists maintains knowledge and awareness of radiation protection and safety during all radiographic examinations. The CT Technologists prepares for and assist the radiologist with intricate CT examinations including a range of tissue biopsies and fluid drainages. The CT Technologist will prepare and administer contrast media in accordance with hospital policy and procedure as well as state and federal regulations. Essential Functions: * Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification. * Assess patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure. * Performs pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed. * Produces CT scans according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department with a high degree of accuracy. * Evaluates finished images/series for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality. * Demonstrates good radiation safety practices during radiographic examinations to include use of correct FOV, lead shields as appropriate, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years. * Performs venipuncture and contrast injections in accordance with department and hospital guidelines. * Ensures examinations are complete to include and exam logged in computer system. * Instructs Radiologic Technology students in the CT Scan positioning and technique. * Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services. * Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures. * Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities. * Uses appropriate customer relations skills to ensure that customer expectations are met including flexibility in scheduled hours. * Assist in quality improvement programs in the department. * Maintains appropriate credentials and certification related to clinical practice and ensures a current copy is on file in the department/hospital. * Ensures that assigned areas are kept clean, neat, and orderly. * Performs other duties as assigned. Performs high quality nuclear medicine and/or positron emission tomography/computed tomography images on patients while providing excellent care. Assures proper dose of radionuclides are ordered for each patient. Checks dose labels to ensure the radionuclide is correct for each patient procedure. Examines doses and adjusts accordingly to ensure each dose matches the recommended amount. Obtains blood sugar levels as needed. Starts intravenous lines or performs straight stick venipuncture for isotope injection. Administers radionuclide in a safe and effective manner. Reports to designated department Supervisor/Manager/Director. * ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Provides services using imaging modalities including but not limited to conventional x-ray, CR, DR, Fluoroscopy, Bone Density, and Urodynamics. * Maintains and applies knowledge of radiation protection standards; knowledge of the function of the major divisions of the skeletal system and major organs; and knowledge of the physical concept of energy and the property of X-rays and electric circuits to perform diagnostic procedures and to assist as a member of a medical team in radiologic examinations. * Provides services within and inpatient, OR, ED and outpatient setting. * Evaluates radiographs for technical quality. * Performs, assists, and accountable for various clinical laboratory procedures including but not limited to specimen collection, processing, storage, handling, and transporting of specimens. * Exercises professional judgment in the performance of radiographic procedures. * Provides patient care essential to radiographic procedures. * Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action. * Performs other duties as assigned. * LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS * Current licensure as a Radiologic Technologist by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) required. * MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS * Knowledge of diagnostic radiology principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of radiologic equipment. * Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients/families, staff and physicians. * Analytical skills necessary to determine best method of providing requested radiographs based on the individual case and basic technical principles, ensuring clear undistorted radiographs at the lowest radiation exposure/dosage. * CPR Training required and/or must be obtained and maintained within 45 days of hire. * WORKING CONDITIONS * Radiology/Imaging areas work environment with rare exposure to physical discomforts due to unpleasant odors from specimens and chemicals. Occasional exposure to infectious agents when handling specimens or hazardous materials but potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed. Regular exposure to radiation. Minimum chance of injury once established safety procedures are followed. Ability to stand for long periods of time wearing a lead apron. Ability to lift or turn disabled patients.
