Position Summary:
As a DirectSupportProfessional, you will provide hands-on support, supervision, and companionship to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential, day, or community-based settings. Your role is essential in helping individuals achieve their personal goals, maintain health and safety, and enhance their quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct care and supervision to individuals in accordance with individualized service plans (ISPs).
Support clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and meal preparation.
Assist with medication administration and health-related tasks (training provided).
Foster community integration by accompanying individuals to appointments, recreational activities, and volunteer/work sites.
Document daily activities, progress notes, behavioral observations, and incidents accurately and timely.
Promote independence, dignity, and choice for all individuals supported.
Respond appropriately to crisis situations, using de-escalation techniques and behavioral support plans when necessary.
Maintain a safe, clean, and positive environment in all settings.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record (preferred).
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in a caregiving role preferred, but not required-training provided.

As a Community Hub DSP you will have the daily opportunity to empower individuals with disabilities to grow in self-determination, self-advocacy, and confidence as they work towards life and employment goals.
At each Community Hub location, we strive to help individuals become active participants in their communities and access meaningful work experiences. Responds to medical emergencies using First Aid and CPR techniques, as appropriate.
Passes medications and performs medical activities as a nurse delegate, as necessary. Training is required from Registered Nurses for this duty. (OH)
Uses an integrated teaching approach that embeds opportunities to improve social, communication, cognitive, and motor skills (developmental functions) during practical life activities and routines.
Implements behavior management programs as directed. Responds to crises involving individuals served using non-violent crisis intervention techniques, as appropriate.
Provides direct supervision and positive interaction with adults during all personal care services.
Assists adults with any type of personal care as needed and as assigned.
Assists and encourages adults to actively engage in preparing snacks, setting up/cleaning up for meals, selecting and putting away materials, and completing related tasks to foster the development of daily living skills and personal responsibility.
Provides safe physical management of adults during emergency drills and/or crises.
Assists with shared duties including preparation and cleanup of snacks/meals, supervision of breaks or lunch, setting up/cleaning up for meals, assistance with laundry, cleaning/organizing program materials, bus duty, and similar tasks.

· Experience working with individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities; prefer 1 year
· Ability to pass criminal registry, background checks and other checks deemed necessary
· Valid driver's license, insured vehicle, and safe driving record
· Basic language, written and computer skills necessary for communication and documentation
· Ability and willingness to support individuals with challenging behavior and or medical concerns
· Ability to successfully complete and maintain all required training courses, including CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, Positive Behavioral Support Training, and any additional training mandated by the agency. (In Ohio, this includes all training requirements established by DODD.)
Work Environment/Conditions: DSPs work in a changing environment that adjusts to the needs of the individuals in program services. The environment may be fast paced with interruptions, distractions and deadlines. DSPs need to be flexible and be able to adjust to changing needs, activities and locations. DSPs may be exposed to blood and bodily fluids. DSPs must be able to tolerate tobacco smoke and/or pet dander based on the individual being supported. DSPs must have an insured, safe vehicle in good working order to utilize for incidental transportation required for staff and program participants to and from community activities.
Physical Requirement- Depending on the needs of the individuals, the work can be physically demanding including transferring or supporting people with mobility needs, lifting or moving items up to 75 lbs, walking or standing for extended periods of time or providing support through CPR/First Aid, behavioral support, and other interventions. Staff may work with violent/physically aggressive participants and respond to emergency situations involving potential physical harm to self and others.

Assist with errands and shopping
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Caregiver, Home Health Aide, or similar role is preferred but not required
Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
Knowledge of basic housekeeping tasks and cooking skills
Ability to adhere to all health and safety guidelines
Excellent communication and interpersonal spills
Ability to lift heavy objects
