Summary:
Acts as a lead and resource to the Bariatric Navigation staff as directed. Serves as a point of contact for the Bariatric Care Continuum, outside departments, patients and caregivers to provide resources and assistance with accessing clinical and supportive care services offered within Virtua and in the community. Supports the optimal team efficiency by assisting with scheduling, workflow management and quality assurance. Acts as a customer liaison, providing excellent service to all callers and projecting a professional, positive image of self and Virtua.
Position Responsibilities:
Assists with managing daily operations and productivity. Evaluates data to manage departmental workflow and service levels so the staffing is optimal to meet performance requirements. Make suggestions for process improvement. Assist in training new clinical staff and mentor less experienced co-workers.
Daily quality assurance monitoring of clinical staff and providing manager with weekly reports of staff effectiveness along with conducting team meetings. Hold coaching sessions with clinical staff to ensure ultimate productivity and customer satisfaction.
Increase Virtua's business and patient satisfaction by using excellent customer service skills to navigate patients within Virtua and coordinate all appointments, register for classes and Virtua programs. Coordinates multidisciplinary planning conferences, develops concise patient summaries for use by the care team, and documents recommendations made utilizing standardized care protocols in accordance with nationally recognized care guidelines.
Responsible for outreach efforts to establish and maintain positive working relationships with key customers (physicians, office staff, diagnostic staff, nurses, radiology staff, social services staff, and radiation oncology staff, etc.)
Make daily outbound calls to ensure timely patient access through Virtua's system along with protecting confidentiality of patient.
Perform data entry and complete all data records with concise patient information and appropriate coding to ensure proper tracking of leads. Understanding of all databases used such as IBEX, Sorian Scheduling, Sorian clinicals and TFB/NEC phone system.

Requires problem solving, decision making & critical thinking; requires excellent leadership, organizational, written & verbal communication & excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work in a self-directed environment, with an ability to work with and lead teams; Excellent presentation skills; ability to implement professional and community-based education programs. Computer literate, Microsoft Office competency required. Ability to work quickly while making accurate decisions. Must be able to use general office equipment including a multi-line telephone system.

The Special Procedures Unit (SPU) is an ambulatory center that performs non-operative treatment procedures on patients that need pain management of spinal and sports-related injuries, and other musculoskeletal problems. The procedures performed are medically supervised exercise therapies to restore mobility and function in patients who might otherwise require surgery. Some of the conditions include but not limited to are back pain, neck pain, muscle and joint pain, sports injuries, post-surgical pain, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), headaches, facet syndromes, nerve injuries, Osteoid Osteoma, phantom limb pain, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and cancer pain. The procedures and treatments performed in SPU include; epidural steroid injections - cervical, thoracic, lumbar and caudal, facet joint injections - cervical, thoracic and lumbar, intramuscular and subcutaneous trigger/tender point injections, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections, diagnostic and therapeutic spinal injection, diagnostic discography, implantable pain pumps, musculoskeletal and joint injection, medication management, nerve blocks, pulsed cold radiofrequency procedures radiofrequency ablations, sacroiliac joint blocks, spinal cord stimulation, spinal nerve root/dorsal root ganglion blocks - cervical, thoracic and lumbar, sympathetic ganglion and nerve Blocks, botox injections for migraine headaches and acupuncture.

The Atlantic Health System Nurse Externship Program is for junior students obtaining their Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (preferred) or an Associate of Science degree in nursing. Our five hospitals and ambulatory sites include Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center (Summit), Chilton Medical Center (Pompton Plains), Newton Medical Center, Hackettstown Medical Center, and Atlantic Medical Group (over 450 locations).
The goal of the Nurse Externship Program is to allow rising senior nursing students to learn about the role of the professional nurse, while being precepted by specially selected nurses. Nurse Externs will be assigned to a specific unit for the entire externship. Although we will do our very best to accommodate unit preferences, placement will be ultimately determined by unit availability. Externs should be open to exploring the unit they are placed even if it was not their first choice. Assignments will be received just prior to the start of the program.
Externship Details:
Timeframe: 8-week experience starting Monday, June 1st, 2026, and ending Friday, July 24

Opportunity for continued employment after the externship as a per diem Patient Care Technician, Nursing Assistant, or Secretary/Technician
Shifts: May include days, nights, and weekends (must be flexible)

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing to preparing candidates for registered nurse licensure. Students of diploma and two-year programs must have completed at least two clinical nursing semesters with a minimum grade of "C". Baccalaureate students must have completed all junior-level courses with a minimum grade of "C". Students must submit a skills checklist completed by their school of nursing to validate academic and clinical standing.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Current American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) for the healthcare provider certification required upon hire or transfer.
EXPERIENCE: Two semesters of clinical student nursing experience. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with other team members; ability to be flexible, set priorities, solve problems and use judgment in difficult situations.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates competencies on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
General hospital exposure potential hazards and risks, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances and potential injury.
