Job Description
CNC Machinists are responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC lathe machines to produce complex aerospace components with precision and efficiency. Depending on experience and skill level, machinists may work under direct supervision or operate independently, demonstrating increasing levels of technical expertise and leadership.
Core responsibilities include loading and unloading parts, performing in-process inspections using hand and advanced measuring tools, and completing documentation to ensure quality standards are met. Machinists set up fixtures, cutting tools, and CNC programs, adjusting offsets as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy. They perform deburring operations, basic and advanced preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot machining processes to optimize performance.
Experienced machinists are proficient in using inspection tools such as height gauges, air gauges, and bench inspection equipment. At the highest level, they are capable of setting up and running all site-specific CNC and conventional machines, designing and manufacturing complex tooling, and mentoring junior machinists while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Description
Position Summary:
The CNC Mill & Lathe Machinist at Atlantic Precision Inc produces machined aerospace parts through programming, setting up and operating the machine; following quality and safety standards; keeping records; and maintaining equipment and supplies.
Role requires the ability to obtain a Secret clearance or higher, due to the nature of work API performs.
This is a first shift / hourly / non-exempt position.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
* Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters. Interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
* Programs mills or lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches, calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry, proving part programs.
* Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers, indicating vices, tramming heads.
* Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
* Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards.
* Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
* Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
* Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
* Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
* Furthers organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

The Machinist II is responsible for optimizing the utilization of machines, equipment, and personnel to achieve the highest levels of efficiency. This includes programming, setting up tooling, and operating CNC milling machines to support production machining and finishing needs.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
Program and set up CNC milling machines (3 axis and 5 axis).
Performs tooling machining.
Provides manufacturing support and machines production parts.
Coordinates workload to meet production requirements.
Provides machine/process design and improvements to increase productivity and decrease scrap/re-work.
Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
Visualizes parts/equipment from sketches or oral direction.
Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities of new equipment.
Operates manual machines, lathes, mill, grinding equipment, water jet equipment.
Trains others in machining environment
Maintains machine tools and capital equipment.
Assists with repair of capital equipment.
Manages job stress and interacts effectively with others in the workplace.
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, skills, & abilities)
High School Diploma or General Education Degree
5+ years of related experience, including extensive set up experience
Knowledge of quality systems and QC methods; LEAN Manufacturing preferred
Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions of the machinist trade
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to follow established policies and procedures, work independently & in team environment.
Ability to maintain a professional working relationship.
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English language.
Ability to read and understand technical data, blueprints, engineering sketches, etc.
Ability to perform gas and electric welding.
Ability to pass background check and drug test upon acceptance of an offer.
Work Environment:
Standard machine shop environment with various types of machinery. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
