POSITION SUMMARY

The Impact You'll Make in this Role
The Global Logistics Modal Manager is responsible for developing and executing global standards, and strategies for airfreight, ocean, and parcel modes. This role ensures optimal balance of cost, service, and quality, while driving performance improvement initiatives and building strong partnerships with freight forwarders and ocean carriers. The individual will be accountable for mode-level cost performance, service strategy, and carrier connectivity, directly enabling Transportation Excellence capability across the enterprise.

Leading Modal Policy & Strategy Development
Develop and maintain policies and standards for airfreight, ocean, and parcel in alignment with the Transportation Excellence Capability Hub.
Create strategic content and playbooks to balance cost, service, and quality across modes.
Lead carrier, route, and mode selection both during and outside of annual bid cycles.
Owning Optimization and Productivity
Drive strategic plan initiatives (e.g., air-to-ocean conversions, load factor optimization, parcel modal shifts) to achieve financial targets.
Own and monitor mode-level cost performance for air, ocean, and parcel.
Partner with Finance and Procurement on budgeting, forecasting, and cost variance reviews.
Advancing the Service Journey
Define and own performance strategy at the lane level, including global service definitions for cross-regional transportation.
Ensure provider service delivery meets contracted KPIs across all international carriers.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action plans for service deviations.
Driving Performance with Partners
Lead escalation and deviation management with air, ocean, and parcel carriers.
Develop and maintain carrier roadmaps to align with enterprise EHS, safety, and sustainability targets.
Drive digital connectivity for real-time visibility, milestone tracking, and emissions reporting.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business (completed and verified prior to start)
Ten (10) years of experience in supply chain / logistics, with direct experience managing air, ocean, or parcel modes in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Master's degree in Business from an accredited institution
Strong knowledge of carrier procurement, international trade, and transportation operations.
Demonstrated success in balancing cost, service, and sustainability goals.

Your Skills and Expertise
