Job Title: Welder/ Fabricator Company: Firelands Fabrication Reports to: Shop Supervisor FLSA: Hourly A Welder joins and shapes metal and other materials, and welds pieces of metal together. Essential Functions: Perform welding tasks using various processes such as GMAW, FCAW and stick (SMAW) welding. Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and engineering drawings. Cut, shape, and assemble metal components to create structures or products. Perform all steel layout of secondary parts and holes. Tack welds all secondary parts to main steel member. Complete welding of all secondary pieces if required. Grind and wire wheel steel members. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: High School Diploma or equivalent. Proven experience as a Welder in a manufacturing or similar environment. Proficient in GMAW, FCAW & Stick (SMAW) welding techniques. Ability to obtain necessary welding certification. Perform work to meet AISC standards. Familiarity with reading and interpreting blueprints and welding symbols. operating overhead cranes and rigging knowledge. Strong attention to detail and precision in work. Welding certification is a plus. Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor tasks. Working Conditions: The primary work location will be within a manufacturing facility equipped with modern machinery and tools. The facility is designed to provide a controlled environment for welding operations. General start and stop times vary depending on the project, but normally range from 6:00am-4:30pm, normally working four (4) 10-hour days. Occasional mandatory overtime is to be expected. Summary: The Fitter/Welder is responsible for fabricating, hand-welding, flame-cutting and/or preheating material to weld or join metal components and to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: · Reads and interprets blueprints and/or drawings to determine the specific fit-up and welding requirements. · Operates forklifts and overhead cranes to handle and move materials · Obtains required configurations and positions for welding such as clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending, grinding and/or bolting component parts. · Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment. · Removes rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders or scrapers. · Welds components in flat or vertical positions. · Adheres to blueprints or diagrams related to welding projects. · Performs all other duties as assigned.
