Principal Engineer - Water Treatment Position Description: The Principal Engineer -Water Treatment is responsible for leading planning and design of water treatment projects. This includes business development and proposal writing along with managing and engaging in project work from project planning, preliminary design, design, and support services during construction. We are seeking a dynamic leader who is passionate about pushing our capabilities to new heights. This individual will thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with both clients and team members to drive success. With a proven track record in capturing and delivering impactful projects, developing strong client relationships, and mentoring and guiding staff, this leader will play a pivotal role in shaping our future. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide strategic support to the Treatment Business Sector, while making a lasting impact on our organization's growth and success. Other duties include: Lead engineering designs, construction drawings, specifications, and calculations for various projects. Review project designs and drawings for compliance with engineering principles, firm standards, regulatory compliance, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Establish and foster client relations and develops proposals and budgets. Meet with clients to determine recommended project scope and estimate staffing requirements and fee. Develop and maintain client contact before, during, and after project completion. Cultivate client relationships through organizational involvement and by direct contact. Use technical knowledge to develop technical studies/reports and designs for water treatment projects. Make recommendations to senior management as to additional staff and resource needs. Assign staff and other resources, working with other managers to balance overall company workload and best utilize personnel. Prepare and conduct technical review of staff, reports, correspondence, calculations and prepare technical recommendations. Prepare opinions of probable cost on current and new designs. Ensures projects are delivered on schedule and within scope and budget. Project management of major design and construction projects. Effectively direct projects from planning through completion. Keep timely track of project progress, schedule, and budget. Monitor project scopes, request contract amendments when appropriate. Mentor engineering staff on technical matters and procedures and act as a technical resource. Contribute to technical journals and conference presentations. Provide quality assurance for plans and contract documents for construction of improvements within specialty area. Determine clients' invoicing requirements and work with accounting staff to prepare timely monthly invoices. Prepare summary billing descriptions if appropriate or required by client. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's or Master's degree in in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field. 15+ years' experience in civil engineering consulting or engineering management. Excellent writing and communication skills are essential. PE licensure in the State of California, or ability to obtain PE licensure within 6 months of hire. PE licensure in other states that firm is actively practicing may also be considered. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS *This position may require travel to other offices and/or client offices. SENIOR / PRINCIPAL ENGINEER - WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEMS PLANNING DESCRIPTION The Senior / Principal Engineer role will contribute to the development of the firm's Water Business Sector (which encompasses water system, water resource, recycled water, and collection system planning). Previous experience with Wastewater Collection System Planning/Hydraulic Modeling is required, including master planning, infiltration and inflow analysis, flow monitoring, risk assessments, alternatives analysis and development of capital improvement plans. Candidates with a desire to develop their career toward technical leadership, client service management, and/or regional/sector management are ideal. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & FUNCTIONS Serving as a technical leader in wastewater collection system hydraulic evaluations utilizing a variety of commercial hydraulic modeling software programs (e.g., Infoworks ICM, AquaTwin Sewer, SewerGems, etc.). Working as part of a team on projects throughout California and Oregon. Analyzing various types of flow, demand, population, water quality, and facilities condition data. Assessing collection system regulatory compliance. Developing wastewater collection system capital improvement programs. Preparing technical reports and master plans. Training and mentoring staff on wastewater collection evaluation and assessments. Serving as a project manager directing the hydraulic modeling and master planning work of senior level, as well as other staff engineers. Providing QA/QC review on the work of others in the wastewater collection system planning team. Interacting directly with clients and providing excellent client service. The primary role of this position is to prepare design drawings and documents, technical specifications, cost estimates, proposals, calculations, and studies associated with traction power system for electrified railways AC and DC. This position is based out of our Downtown Los Angeles Office location and allows for a hybrid working scenario including for in-office collaboration sessions as well as remote work. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Technical competence in all elements of transit traction power engineering. Ability to perform project work as well as serve as a technical leader. Ability to prepare and guide drafters/designers and less experienced engineers to prepare One-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, emergency trip, grounding and lighting, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling, test plans, field tests, reports, analysis, and technical studies for traction power systems. Ability to perform grounding design, load flow, harmonic, power flow, voltage drop, protective relay settings and coordination and arc flash studies using specialized software. Ability to recommend appropriate actions to ensure compliance with all clients, local, state, and federal regulations including AREMA railway standards, the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), the National Electrical Safety Code (IEEE C2), and other applicable US and global standards. Ability to develop systemwide ductbank drawings by working in close coordination with respective system disciplines. Assist and provide working information to CAD for BIM clash detection. Provide value engineering on traction power systems related issues saving costs and schedule. Manage technical requirements from start to finish using IBM Doors or other requirements management software.
