FAQs - Let's talk about it!
Becoming a Shared Living Provider presents a unique and fulfilling opportunity to welcome someone in need into your home. We understand that this decision may come with questions and uncertainties. The Shared Living team is here to assist you every step of the way. To help you get familiar with our process, here are some of the most frequently asked questions!
1. Who can become a Shared Living Provider?
Parents, relatives, or even family friends are able to be Shared Living providers for their loved ones with intellectual disabilities when they reach adulthood. Additionally, Shared Living providers can be paired with a non-related individual with similar interests.
2. Do I have to own a home to participate in Shared Living?
No! While there are specific requirements and qualifications to determine your eligibility, you do not need to own your current residence.
3. Who determines the placement?
Ultimately, you and the consumer decide if placement is a good match. The timeline for this process can vary based on several factors; however, the goal is to find a match that feels right for all parties.
4. Can I work another job and still be a shared living provider?
You can! Every family's needs look a little different and we know many people rely on the income of other employment. Although becoming a provider does require a level of commitment and dependability, some providers are able to balance other workloads.
5. What is your service area?
Woodfords' Shared Living Services contracts shared living providers in York, Cumberland, Androscoggin, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Piscataquis, and Somerset Counties.
