AP Manager
Etched
Accounting manager job in San Jose, CA
Job Description
Etched is building AI chips that are hard-coded for individual model architectures. Our first product (Sohu) only supports transformers, but has an order of magnitude more throughput and lower latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video generation models and extremely deep & parallel chain-of-thought reasoning agents.
Job Summary
We're hiring an AP Manager to own core accounts payable operations and support a clean, scalable close. This is a hands-on role working closely with Accounting, Procurement, and Finance, focused on ensuring vendor spend is accurate, compliant, and properly reflected in the general ledger.
You'll be close to the details-running day-to-day AP processes-while also helping design systems, controls, and workflows that scale as Etched grows. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys being in the flow of transactions, understands how operational activity hits the GL, and wants real ownership over a critical financial function.
Key Responsibilities
As AP Manager, you'll be both hands-on and strategic. You'll run the daily AP operations while also designing the systems, processes, and controls that will scale with us. You'll work cross-functionally with Finance, Procurement, and Operations - and you'll also take on ad-hoc projects that go well beyond AP. This is a chance to grow into a broader role as Etched expands, shaping the financial backbone of one of the most ambitious AI hardware startups out there.
Process Leadership: Manage the daily AP operations, including invoice processing, coding, approvals, and payment runs.
Vendor Relations: Build and maintain strong vendor relationships, serving as the main point of contact for inquiries and issue resolution.
Systems & Automation: Drive improvements in AP workflows by implementing technology and process automation to increase efficiency.
Compliance & Controls: Ensure compliance with internal policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements; maintain proper documentation and approval workflows.
Tax Compliance: Own annual 1099 reporting and use tax reporting.
Month-End & Reporting: Support the monthly close process by reconciling AP subledgers, preparing accruals, and providing reporting/analysis to Finance leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Procurement, FP&A, and business teams to ensure accurate coding, cost tracking, and budget alignment.
Team Development: Lead and mentor AP staff, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
You may be a good fit if you have
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent is a plus).
5+ years of progressive AP experience.
Strong knowledge of AP best practices, controls, and compliance requirements.
Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar); comfort with scaling systems in a high-growth environment.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Benefits
Full medical, dental, and vision packages, with generous premium coverage
Housing subsidy of $2,000/month for those living within walking distance of the office
Daily lunch and dinner in our office
Relocation support for those moving to San Jose (Santana Row)
How we're different
Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.
We are a fully in-person team in San Jose (Santana Row), and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.

AP Manager
Etched
Accounting manager job in San Jose, CA
