Each State’s Most Embarrassing Thanksgiving Google Search for 2026

Thanksgiving Google Searches

Most Embarrassing Google Search By State Research Summary

  • Stuffing was the most searched Thanksgiving recipe in 2023, topping the list in 49 out of 50 states.

  • The most Googled Thanksgiving question in 2024 was “When is Thanksgiving?” Picture showing up to a deserted family gathering.

  • In 2024, searches for Thanksgiving dessert outpaced those for Thanksgiving dinner.

  • Searches for “Thanksgiving gifs” and “Thanksgiving memes” surged 450% in the week leading up to the holiday.

Thanksgiving—a day to express gratitude for family, friends, and the joys of life.

Yet, judging by Google searches, it also reveals a day filled with kitchen mishaps, awkward family moments, cravings for fast food, and an over-abundance of mayo.

We analyzed Google Search Trends data to uncover what each state is uniquely Googling more than any other this Thanksgiving.

It appears some states might have a bit more to cringe about than others.

Most Fun Findings

  • Clogged toilets (Maine), no plungers in sight (Indiana), and food poisoning concerns (Michigan). Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Oregon is Googling “How to call in sick,” likely coinciding with last-minute Thanksgiving plans.

  • Mayonnaise is the hot topic in Mississippi.

  • Searching for divorce or divorce lawyers is not how anyone envisions spending Thanksgiving—let’s hope it’s not a holiday-related decision.

  • Why are so many in Massachusetts searching for “Bad Thanksgiving”?

  • In Tennessee, the question isn’t “Can you cook a turkey in the microwave?” but “Should you?” Spoiler: No.

  • While families in Pennsylvania might not fight more than others, they are searching for “How To Win An Argument” the most.

  • Forget turkey and stuffing; people are craving Taco Bell (North Dakota), McDonald’s (Wyoming), Little Caesars (Arizona), and Applebee’s (New Hampshire).

  • While Nevada may be Googling “Thanksgiving alone,” Florida is searching for “Pictures Of Happy Thanksgiving,” which feels even more solitary.

HOW WE DETERMINED THIS

Using Google Trends, we identified the most embarrassing searches unique to each state for Thanksgiving. Google searches provide a candid glimpse into people’s thoughts, often revealing unfiltered curiosity. Based on the data, perhaps a touch of self-awareness is warranted.

We examined searches from Thanksgiving week 2023, offering rich insights into what people contemplate during Turkey week and on Turkey day itself.

Our search included hundreds of terms related to awkward family situations, unpleasant bathroom problems, fast food inquiries, cringe-worthy social media memes, and other queries that might evoke a blush.

While the holiday may have evolved, many will still seek ways to rescue a dish or find a drink. Some traditions remain timeless.

Don’t Stop Googling

This isn’t about shaming anyone for their Thanksgiving queries.

If you’re grateful for a Crunchwrap Supreme or the fact that Waffle House serves hashbrowns on holidays, who are we to judge? Thanksgiving is one of the few federal holidays. If you’re fortunate enough to have the day off, spend it with loved ones and food you enjoy.

And if the gravy turns out too salty or the turkey is a bit dry, that’s perfectly fine. Ultimately, holidays aren’t solely about the food; they’re about the time spent with others.

So, even if you have to endure an overcooked turkey, may your day still leave you feeling thankful.
