Each State’s Favorite Cereal: The Most Popular Cereal Brands in the US

Favorite Cereal Map

States’ Favorite Cereals Research Summary

  • The leading cereal in the U.S. is Cinnamon Toast Crunch, the favorite in 13 states.

  • Froot Loops follows closely, claiming the top spot in 8 states.

  • Annually, Americans consume approximately 2.7 billion boxes of cereal.

  • The first-ever cereal, Granula, was created by James Caleb Jackson in 1863.

Starting your day with Folgers might bring a smile, but it won’t fill you up. So, what’s the go-to breakfast for busy professionals? While eggs and drive-thru stops are options, they can be time-consuming and costly.

This is where cereal shines as the ultimate breakfast choice! With that in mind, we wondered: which cereals reign supreme across the states? Are some regions more inclined towards Cocoa Puffs than others? We analyzed Google search trends to uncover each state’s favorite cereal.

Other Interesting Findings

  • Sweet cereals remain a favorite, with many states opting for brightly packaged sugary options over healthier alternatives.

  • Surprisingly, no state seems to recognize the magical allure of Lucky Charms.

  • This makes Missouri’s affection for Raisin Bran a curious choice.

  • On a positive note, Hawaii embraces the deliciousness of Cocoa Puffs!

How We Figured This Out

Utilizing Google Trends, we analyzed the cereal preferences of each state based on search interest. We evaluated over 20 popular cereals from the largest cereal brands, determining which cereals were searched at disproportionately high rates.

For instance, while New Hampshire enjoys an array of cereals like the rest of the country, its search interest in Cheerios stands out significantly, making it the state’s favorite.

Our analysis covered a full year of search data, allowing states to showcase their breakfast preferences thoroughly.
