Robert Metchick, an ex-Navy pilot, started in 1964 with the idea of producing toy airliners that were durable, attractive and authentic enough to be used as desk models.
The TWA version followed shortly thereafter and tooling soon began on the Boeing 727-100 which went on sale in 1969 along with the DC-9 Series 10.
In 1971, the Boeing 737-200 in United colors joined the lineup.
