Aerostar International company history timeline

1986

Aerostar International was established in 1986 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Raven Industries, carrying on everything which Raven was at its inception, and the technologies and expertise of Raven’s scientific ballooning history were transferred to Aerostar.

1987

Raven solidified its place in that sector in 1987, when it acquired Astoria Fibra-Steel, a utility truck body business.

1991

In fact, the company was named one of America's fastest-growing companies by Financial World in 1991.

But despite the fact that 30 percent of its total sales in fiscal year 1991 were connected to defense contracts, Raven remained optimistic.

Aerostar Aircraft Corporation was formed in 1991 by its principals, Steve Speer and Jim Christy.

1998

Sales rose to $149.6 million in fiscal 1998, and again to $152.8 million the following year.

Although Glasstite had returned to profitability in 1998 after two years of losses, analysts had long accused Raven of overextending itself in the automotive sector.

1999

In 1999, the company received a contract from NASA to produce a unique high-atmosphere balloon. 'I'm confident you'll see this company back on a growth track,' Christensen told the Associated Press.

1999: Company sells Glasstite.
