Minimum Qualifications
Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 2 - starting salary $27.25 per hour
Six months of trainee or entry-level wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience. The required experience is met by service as a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
And
Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System (see required job qualifications special note).
Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 3 - starting salary $30.80 per hour
Twelve months of wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience, of which at least six months were at the developmental level. The required developmental experience is met by service as a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or by an equivalent position with another employer.
And
Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System (see required job qualifications special note).
Education substitution applies to the Wildland Fire & Resource Technicians 2 and 3
Completed coursework from an accredited college or vocational-technical school in forestry, fire science, or a closely related field may substitute for six months of general field experience. (For college 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of work experience. Transcripts or a letter from a vocational-technical school must indicate college credit equivalency for the completed coursework. For example, at Alaska Vocational Technical Center: Forest Ecology = 3 semester credits; Forest Regeneration = 2 semester credits; Timber Harvesting and Sale Administration = 4 semester credits; and Wildland Fire Management = 3 semester credits.)
There is no substitution for the six months of developmental experience.
There is no substitution for the National Incident Qualification System (Red Card) qualifications.
Special Notes:
* Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age.
* Most positions require National Incident Qualification System certifications. Because there are different specialty areas in this field, recruitment and selection will be made from among those candidates who meet the experience and the basic National Incident Qualification System training requirements specifically listed within the recruitment bulletin. * Applicant must possess an Alaska driver's license. An individual without an Alaska driver's license who meets the minimum age and experience requirements may apply for the vacancy. An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon the acquisition of an Alaska driver's license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
* Positions may require travel both in and out-of-state for fire suppression assignments; stand-by or recall status during the fire season; availability for assignments in and out of the area that requires absence from the duty station for 14 to 21 days; flying in small fixed-wing aircraft or helicopters; and handling hazardous materials.
* Some positions may require a commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements.

Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 2- starting salary $27.25 per hour
Six months of trainee or entry-level wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience. The required experience is met by service as a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System (see required job qualifications special note).
Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 3- starting salary $30.80 per hour
Twelve months of wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience, of which at least six months was at the developmental level. The required developmental experience is met by service as a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System (see required job qualifications special note).
Education substitution applies to the Wildland Fire & Resource Technicians 2 and 3
Completed coursework from an accredited college or vocational-technical school in forestry, fire science, or a closely related field may substitute for six months of general field experience. The Property Maintenance Technician I is responsible for responding to maintenance requests as requested through the facilities work order system, as assigned by the Facilities Director. An effective Property Maintenance Technician I has the ability to perform a variety of duties related to building maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical repair, housekeeping and groundskeeping. The goal of the position is to ensure that all the properties are maintained to the highest standards possible. This includes all the properties managed, owned, and leased by FRA. The Property Maintenance Technician I helps the property achieve success by keeping the buildings and grounds in excellent condition and by providing excellent customer service to residents.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responds to service calls for various general repair work in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical according to work orders received.
Completes work orders, and documentation and paperwork required for record-keeping, and accuracy of billing.
Identifies and repairs light electrical, plumbing and carpentry work (including but not limited to; painting, drywall repair, install bathroom and kitchen faucets and fixtures).
Performs minor and routine maintenance repair for roofing, siding, gutters and fasteners.
Perform custodial and grounds work (including but not limited to; grass cutting, planting, snow removal, etc) to ensure safety and good general appearance to the public.
Changing switches and receptacles. Repairs light fixtures within NES guidelines to provide a safe environment.
Light maintenance on appliances.

Personnel staff engines, helicopters, and hand crews daily and are ready to respond to wildfires not only within FAF's protection area, but across Alaska.
When not on fires, fire staff are regularly engaged in training and fuels mitigation projects that enhance strategic and tactical fire suppression options and strengthen community wildland fire protection.
A high level of physical fitness is required, and all initial attack personnel are expected to participate in daily physical training and complete the annual fitness testing.
Fairbanks is the hub of Interior Alaska, and there are multiple local outdoor recreational activities, including camping, boating, hiking, fishing, berry picking, and photography. Six months of trainee or entry-level wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience. The required experience is met by service as a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 3- starting salary $31.72 per hour
Twelve months of wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience, of which at least six months was at the developmental level. The required developmental experience is met by service as a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System (see required job qualifications special note).
Education substitution applies to the Wildland Fire & Resource Technicians 2 and 3
Completed coursework from an accredited college or vocational-technical school in forestry, fire science, or a closely related field may substitute for six months of general field experience. (For college 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of work experience. Transcripts or a letter from a vocational-technical school must indicate a college credit equivalency for the completed coursework. For example, at Alaska Vocational Technical Center: Forest Ecology = 3 semester credits; Forest Regeneration = 2 semester credits; Timber Harvesting and Sale Administration = 4 semester credits; and Wildland Fire Management = 3 semester credits.)
There is no substitution for the six months of developmental experience.
There is no substitution for the National Incident Qualification System (Red Card) qualifications.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Work includes but is not limited to public information, educating public about resource conservation, bear activity, and general area information. This position will assist in placing and maintaining snow fencing for stream bank protection. At times updating signs, minor trail clearing, and minor carpentry repairs may happen as well.
Hiking, wading and crossing rivers, use of ATV(Occasional use), and walking on primitive river trail. Most of the trails are on an elevated boardwalk along river.
Assisting in documenting bear activity in the area, assisting in entering volunteer data, and working with partners, volunteers and other agencies managing a busy Salmon fishing area.
Marginal Duties
Placements may also assist the trails and developed recreation programs maintaining and constructing trails, cleaning outhouses, posting signage, and maintaining backcountry campsites.
Required Qualifications
Placements will need to bring a positive attitude, be willing to interact with public, and work in inclement (wet) weather.
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Housing in the form of a bunkhouse will be available. All rooms are double occupancy. While dormitories may be co-ed, we generally put same sex roommates together. Dorms include use of the kitchen, living room, bathroom and laundry facilities.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This position is based out of the Soldotna Area office of the Kenai-Kodiak Area Office located at 42499 Sterling Hwy, Soldotna, Alaska. The Kenai Kodiak Area is comprised of 11+ million acres of Federal, Tribal, State, Borough, Municipal, and private land that make up the Kenai Peninsula and the island of Kodiak. Many of the duties performed in the job require considerable physical exertion, working outdoors in all terrain and weather conditions, working long hours, and working extended periods away from home. Minimum Qualifications
Twelve months of wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience at the journey level. The required journey level experience is met by service as a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System (see required job qualifications special note).
Substitution:
Completed coursework from an accredited college or vocational technical school in forestry, fire science, or a closely related field may substitute for up to six months of the required field experience. (For college 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of work experience. Transcripts or a letter from a vocational technical school must indicate a college credit equivalency for the completed coursework. For example, at Alaska Vocational Technical Center: Forest Ecology = 3 semester credits; Forest Regeneration = 2 semester credits; Timber Harvesting and Sale Administration = 4 semester credits; and Wildland Fire Management = 3 semester credits.)
There is no substitution for the National Incident Qualification System (Red Card) qualifications.

Most positions require National Incident Qualification System certifications. The Alaska Division of Forestry, Kenai-Kodiak Area, is looking for a highly motivated, professional, and career-oriented individual for an Aviation Foreman position located in Soldotna, AK. In this position, you will:
* Directly supervise 1 Foresty Technician I/II/III´s and more personnel based on fire danger at the Soldotna Area office. Incumbent will assign individuals, including self, to engine and helitack rotation and set schedules for these crews.
* Operate emergency vehicles, including negotiating through traffic with red lights and siren; establish Unified Command, develop and implement strategy and tactics, and account for the safety of personnel.
* Identify and correct unsafe working conditions or problems; report unsafe working conditions, problems, and the corrective action taken to the supervisor.
* Provide oversight to the Area helitack program and provide oversight for lower-level technicians.
* Coordinates with the Fire Program Aviation Officers on aviation issues to maintain initial-attack capabilities during periods of high fire danger.
* Oversee the administration of the local helicopter contract.
* Lead local helitack program, including fueling, pilot staffing, manifest, flight log, and load calculations
* Ensure that Interagency Helicopter Operation Guide (IHOG) standards are followed and enforced.
* Provide oversight for local fixed-wing aircraft, ramp, Kenai-Kodiak Tanker Base, and or helicopter base
* Ensure adequate fuel supply and safe fueling operation
* Manifest and calculate loads for transporting passengers and cargo.

Individual Placement-Alaska- Trails Technician

Apply now to serve a community in the heartland of Alaska through hands-on trail work! These placements will work on trails in Fairbanks, AK under the direction of Fairbanks Trails, Inc., a trails non-profit organization.
Placements will develop and practice skills in sustainable trail maintenance, including using hand and power tools to smoothen trail tread, cut brush, and remove trees. Placements will work alone and in a small team of interns and volunteers with the goals of performing much-needed and years-overdue maintenance on prominent Fairbanks-area trails.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Placements will perform trail maintenance on trail systems in the Fairbanks area, including Skarland, Equinox, ADMA, Pearl Creek, Chena Lakes, Tanana Lakes, Birch Hill, Isberg, Skyline Ridge, the UAF trail systems, and others. Specific work includes trail benching, brushing trail, building and clearing drainages for water run-off, and trail surface leveling. Placements may also perform light carpentry and painting on structures near trails, like warm-up huts near ski trails.
All duties are performed in the field using a variety of tools including power brushers, chainsaws, shovels, Pulaski, and picks.
Placements will be provided with a three-day chainsaw training course with the SCA near Anchorage, AK, starting around May 29 to June 1. Air travel to Anchorage and then from Anchorage to Fairbanks will be covered by a stipend, reimbursement, or direct booking by SCA staff, as yet to be determined.
Upon arrival in Anchorage, SCA staff will transport the placements from the airport to the training site in Indian Valley, and will transport them back to the airport when the training concludes for their flight to Fairbanks. While at training in Indian Valley, placements will be provided a tent and meals.
They will be loaned a helmet, ear protection, and chainsaw chaps for the duration of the training (placements may elect to bring their own), but placements must provide their own leather gloves, eye protection, and leather boots covering the ankle. SCA staff in Anchorage will coordinate with placements before their arrival in Anchorage. The chainsaw certification is recognized by all land management agencies and is good for two years.
Once certified, placements will use chainsaws for brushing and clearing downed trees.
Marginal Duties
Placements may be asked to help Fairbanks Trails Inc. (FTI) lead volunteer work parties on trail projects.
This would include cleaning, preparing, and transporting tools, monitoring volunteers on the appropriate use of tools and personal protective equipment and alerting the FTI volunteer lead of any issues, instructing volunteers on trail work techniques, and verbally informing volunteers on-site of the goals and details of the work party project.
Required Qualifications
Placements will work outside in variable conditions. Fairbanks is known for its sunny and long summer days, but inclement weather is always possible, and mosquitoes are always prevalent.
Placements must have a strong work ethic, be able to manage time effectively, be able to work at times without direct supervision, and be able to work in a team as well as alone. Placements must be able to traverse uneven terrain while carrying up to 40 pounds of tools, personal protective equipment, and personal gear.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to residents of Fairbanks, AK, to local college students, and to anyone with a familiarity of Fairbanks area trails.

Preference is given to local applicants with housing in Fairbanks. Some housing in Fairbanks is available for non-local placements. Please inquire during your interview if you need housing.

The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection, White Mountain Crew, is recruiting for multiple long-term non-permanent experienced crew members - Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 2s in Fairbanks, Alaska. What You Will Be Doing:
This is a crewmember position on a 20-person hand crew (Type 2 Initial Attack). Primary duties will include wildland fire suppression, chainsaw operations, water pump operations, burnout and backfiring, line digging, and safely working with and around fire mitigation equipment. While assigned to fuel reduction tasks, firefighters will be responsible for pile burning, felling and removing hazardous trees, and guiding lower-level technicians. When not on assignment, crew members must maintain readiness and be available throughout the fire season.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
White Mountain is based out of Fairbanks, AK, and is in conjunction with Fairbanks Area Forestry. This position will require travel within Alaska and in other states. You will be required to live and work in remote locations, shifts often lasting 16 hours a day, and for periods of up to 14 to 21 days. Work will be carried out across all terrain and weather conditions.
We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following position-specific competencies.
* Fire Management: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of fire management, including the characteristics, behavior, and ecology of fire; methodologies, strategies, and equipment used in prescribed fires; fire detection, prevention, and suppression strategies; and integration of fire with natural resource management.

Minimum Qualifications
Six months of trainee or entry level wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience. The required experience is met by service as a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
And
Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System (see required job qualifications special note).
Substitution:
Completed coursework from an accredited college or vocational technical school in forestry, fire science, or a closely related field may substitute for the required six months of field experience. (For college 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of work experience. Transcripts or a letter from a vocational technical school must indicate a college credit equivalency for the completed coursework. For example, at Alaska Vocational Technical Center: Forest Ecology = 3 semester credits; Forest Regeneration = 2 semester credits; Timber Harvesting and Sale Administration = 4 semester credits; and Wildland Fire Management = 3 semester credits.)
There is no substitution for the National Incident Qualification System (Red Card) qualifications.
Special Note:
Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age.
Most positions require National Incident Qualification System certification. Because there are different specialty areas in this field, recruitment and selection will be made from among those candidates who meet the experience and the basic National Incident Qualification System training requirements specifically listed within the recruitment bulletin. The specialty areas are within one of the following functions: fire operations, wildland fire prevention, and aviation support.
Applicant must be able to pass the Work Capacity Test at the "Arduous" level as defined in Federal Publication PMS 307, Work Capacity Test Administrator' Guide. This test requires that the applicant complete a 3-mile hike carrying a 45-pound pack over level terrain in 45 minutes or less.
Applicant must possess an Alaska driver's license. An individual without an Alaska driver's license, who meets the minimum age and experience requirements, may apply for the vacancy. An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon acquisition of an Alaska driver's license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
Positions may require travel both in and out-of-state for fire suppression assignments; stand-by or recall status during the fire season; must be available for assignments in and out of the area that requires the absence from the duty station for 14 to 21 days; flying in small fixed wing aircraft or helicopters, and handling hazardous materials.

Retirement Plans
ARRC Pension Plan - Participation is mandatory. You are automatically enrolled in the Plan when you meet the eligibility requirement of your bargaining unit. Key Duties and Responsibilities
Admiralty Island NM has twelve rental cabins, ten three-sided shelters, and approximately 30 miles of trail. Hours are generally 7:00am to 5:30pm. The intern generally works an 8-day, 80-hour work week which may include weekends and holidays as needed. There is generally a 6-day off period between work weeks. Driving and using power tools is required. Tasks may include trail maintenance, trail clearing, construction, carpentry projects, trash removal, cleaning outhouses, sweeping, and painting. Most tasks in wilderness will be accomplished using traditional tools such as crosscut saws and axes.
This position works in brown bear country and interns must be comfortable working around bears. Interns must be comfortable with the presence of firearms and must be comfortable carrying and using bear-spray.
Interns should be prepared to fly in small aircraft, ride in small boats, and hike to work sites.
Work Schedule: Beginning and end of season, will be M-F, 8 hrs/day. Field work is typically eight 10-hour days on, then six days off.
Marginal Duties
The intern may be asked to assist the Cabin and Trail Crew on one or more work assignments at remote public-use cabins include a 3-to-6-mile hike in and possible stay of up to several nights at the cabin then hiking out with a heavy load.
Tasks vary and may include construction and carpentry, cleaning the interior and exterior of cabins, sanding and painting, brush removal and landscaping, sweeping, trash removal, cleaning outhouses, digging a new outhouse hole, pressure washing, patching boats, and assorted other maintenance tasks.

Occupational hazards and safety precautions, standard practices, processes and materials involved in each trade relating to general building construction and maintenance and to grounds and equipment maintenance. Cultivation and maintenance of trees, lawns and ornamental shrubs and use of the equipment to perform such work.
Skills and Abilities: Use and care of tools and equipment employed in each trade relating to general building maintenance, grounds and equipment maintenance and office computers.
Abilities to: Work harmoniously with other maintenance employees, tenants, the public and property management staff.
Supervise work tasks performed by a small group of semi-skilled or unskilled workers and to provide surveillance of contractor work product. Make and work from sketches or plans for improvement or alteration of buildings or equipment and to fully implement all such work. Meet the public effectively and give information regarding ground and building facility policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school, GED or equivalent and four years apprenticeship training or three years journeyman level experience in construction or maintenance of buildings, electrical, carpentry, plumbing or mechanical trades work; or any equivalent combination of experience or training.
Valid Boiler Operator Certificate Class 3 or be able to obtain within one (1) year of date of employment.
At least six months of data processing and Microsoft Office related computer experience.
Physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8 hour workday.
Provide valid Alaska driver's license and show proof of driving record in good standing from DMV when requested.
