Lou Haddad was recruited to Armada Hoffler in 1985 as an on-site construction superintendent where he quickly distinguished himself among company executives and subcontractors alike. Following several promotions, he was elevated to President of Armada Hoffler Construction Company in 1987 despite being a few months shy of his 30th birthday. During his subsequent 9-year tenure, the division’s annual revenue grew from $5 million to $150 million. In 1996, Lou was promoted to President of Armada Hoffler Holding Company, the parent of all Armada Hoffler entities, inclusive of the flagship development division as well as asset management. In 1999, he was given the additional title of Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, Armada Hoffler became one of the largest commercial real estate concerns in the State of Virginia. The Company has participated in over 25 Public-Private partnerships changing skylines across the region including its flagship local project, the Town center of Virginia Beach. In 2013, Lou spearheaded the company’s initial public offering and transition into a publicly-traded REIT listed on the NYSE. Since going public, Armada Hoffler Properties has outperformed the US REIT Index by a margin of 2-to-1, tripled its It’s equity market value to nearly $1.0 billion, and increased its quarterly dividend by 30%. Primarily due to its growth and stability, Armada Hoffler has been added to both the MCSI US REIT Index and S&P Small Cap 600. Since the IPO the company has increased its property holdings to 51 large-scale commercial assets and has developed over $800 million of new projects. Company operations now span across 7 Mid-Atlantic states. Lou is widely recognized in Hampton Roads, Virginia for his philanthropy and dedication to special-needs children. He is the Co-Founder and Benefactor, along with his wife Mary, of the Mary C. Henninger and Louis S. Haddad Foundation, dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged and at-risk children since 1999. Lou has also been active with several youth and medical charities, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, American Heart Association, Governor’s School for the Arts, Special Olympics, United Way, and the March of Dimes. Lou has also been recognized by several awards and publications as one of the most influential leaders in Virginia.

James E. Matanky
Matanky Realty Group

James E. Matanky is the Chief Executive Officer of Matanky Realty Group, Inc., a commercial real estate firm founded in 1955. He oversees the organization’s development, management, brokerage and consulting divisions. Matanky serves as the North American Chair of the International Council of Shopping Centers’ (ICSC) Ambassador Program. He is a member of the ICSC Open Air Committee and the ICSC Nexus program planning committee. Matanky regularly participates as a panelist for both the ICSC and the Urban Land Institute. He has worked with the City of Chicago as a mentor for retail redevelopment and served on the Chicago Building Departments Commissioner’s advisory panel, as well as on the Illinois Food Marketing Task Force, responsible for developing strategies to eliminate statewide food deserts. He is Chairman of the Chicago Stockyards Commission SSA#13 and participates on a Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago advisory panel as well as on the Chicago Trend Steering Committee. Matanky also serves on the Board of Governors of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was honored as a principal for a day in the Chicago public schools. He has involved himself in the community through a variety of past roles including as an officer of the West Humboldt Park Development Council, board Member for the Chicago Association of Neighborhood Development Organizations, board member of the JCCs of Metropolitan Chicago and as past chairman of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago Circle Council. Matanky has been honored as a recipient of the Chicago Neighborhood Developer of the Year Award multiple times for his work in Chicago’s underserved communities. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Illinois, College of Law and was named as an Honorary Fellow of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Matanky graduated with honors from the University of Illinois with degrees in finance, accounting and law. He earned an honors graduate degree in law from Cambridge University, Cambridge, England. He is certified by ICSC in Executive Leadership (CRX), Leasing (CLS), Development (CDP), Shopping Center Management (CMS) and Marketing (CMD).
