North Park's origins lie in 1855 when a village was platted in the newly organized Jefferson Township.
Czechs moved into the northwestern corner of the area after the Bohemian National Cemetery was opened in 1877.
North Park University’s history and heritage reach back to a Minneapolis church basement in 1891, where classes in language and business gave Swedish immigrants the skills needed to prosper in America.
Founded in 1891, the origins of the University are rooted in 19th-century immigration from Sweden, the faith traditions carried from the homeland and established in a new world, and the educational needs of an immigrant denomination, today’s Evangelical Covenant Church.
Forty acres of the eastern part of Park Villas were purchased from Joseph Nash by James Hartley in 1893.

Nonetheless, development proceeded slowly; in 1910 the population numbered only 478.
In 1946, the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) was formed to study the needs of the region and to develop and submit a treatment plan to the Pennsylvania Sanitary Water Board.
ALCOSAN became fully operative as a primary treatment plant in 1959.
North Park graduated its first four-year college class in May 1960.

In 1980, facing neighborhood decline, North Park considered relocating to donated land in Lake County.
In 1995 Raymond D. Nasher sold his stake in NorthPark Center to his daughter, Nancy A. Nasher, and her husband, David J. Haemisegger, who continue a bold legacy.
In 2004, 83 ALCOSAN communities signed municipal consent orders committing to the assessment and repair of their sewage collection systems.
They completed a 1.2-million-square-foot, $250 million expansion in 2006, returning to Omniplan, the architectural firm that originally designed NorthPark Center, to shape the expansion.

The 2019 North Park Historical Society Car Show was held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 10 am to 1 pm in the parking lot in front of the Balboa Tennis Club at Morley Field.
