She was the sister of model Krissy Taylor (1978–95). Taylor walked the runways for the world’s top fashion houses, including Chanel and Givenchy, and was featured on more than 400 magazine covers.

In 1983 the company recruited PepsiCo, Inc., president John Sculley to be its chief executive officer (CEO) and, implicitly, Jobs’s mentor in the fine points of running a large corporation.

She found it increasingly difficult, however, to juggle school and modeling, and in 1985 she dropped out of college to model full-time.

Meanwhile, in 1986 Jobs acquired a controlling interest in Pixar, a computer graphics firm that had been founded as a division of Lucasfilm Ltd., the production company of Hollywood movie director George Lucas.

Taylor was raised with her two sisters in Pembroke Pines, near Fort Lauderdale, where the family relocated in 1987.

In 1989 Crawford signed a four-year multimillion-dollar contract with Revlon, which gained her international recognition.

Perhaps because of her growing resemblance to her sister, Taylor was featured with Niki on the first ever black-and-white cover of Seventeen (January 1992) to positive reviews.

American singer RuPaul captured the phenomenon in the 1993 hit song aptly titled “Supermodel,” which mentioned the year’s top models—including Taylor—by first name only.

Later that year Crawford wed Hollywood actor Richard Gere; they divorced in 1995.

In spring 1997, the Center for United States Studies initiated an academic pilot project by offering a series of "Intensive Seminars in American History" for undergraduate students.

Crawford again posed nude for Playboy (October 1998) to promote her ABC television special Sex with Cindy Crawford, which examined sexual attitudes in America.
