The overarching goal of this program is to provide disadvantaged and low-income youth with the opportunity to obtain a high school diploma and construction certifications online, develop employment hard and soft skills, and secure local in-demand jobs, thus achieving economic self-sufficiency. PURPOSE
To teach basic skills (reading, writing, math) and GED preparation, modify the curriculum and materials to meet individual and program needs.
Coordinate, develop, or adapt a vocational-oriented curriculum in cooperation with the site team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide quality instruction to youth participants in all areas of the GED preparation curriculum. This includes basic reading, writing, math and algebra, science, and social studies.
Provide remediation skills training to youth who need upgrading literacy and numeracy skills through tutoring.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the GED certification exam requirements, processes, procedures, and study materials.
Administer and score all required pre and post-assessments using prescribed testing materials.

The NYPL is hiring Tutors to provide homework help and enrichment activities to elementary grade students in 32 branch libraries during the 2022-2023 school year. The Lead Tutor is also responsible for overseeing the logistical implementation of the program at their assigned location day-to-day.
Lead Tutors will work 16 hours per week, M-Th, during the program hours of approximately 3-6 PM with additional hours required for professional development, meetings, and preparation. Lead Tutors will work approximately 36 weeks per year, September 14, 2022 through June 15, 2022. Essential Job Functions
- Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, and other skills (English & Spanish).
- Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
- Assists professional staff in the administration and correction of classrooms exercises, tests and assessments.
