Ashton Place company history timeline
On the 1967 Public Works Map it remains as a stub from Jackson Street leading into the construction site for the Downtowner (later Heart of Durham) motel; Google Maps still show the street as a cu-de-sac, but the motel's demolition and subsequent bus station construction removed any physical traces. It appears, unnamed, on the 1887 Branson's Directory as a continuation of Great Jones Street on the south side of the North Carolina Railroad.
The paper covers the house from when it was built in 1898 by Doctor Monagin to its sale after Mrs.
England's exemplar in municipal terms was Manchester, which opened the first purpose-built model lodging house for women along modern lines in 1910.
