Leadership only cared about the top line sales number; as long as you brought in a big ticket every so often then no one paid you any attention. Unfortunately... the business is a break fix model so eyeing big ticket transactions and ignoring consistent lower ticket repeaters is a bit silly. That also meant no one bothered to coach and help employees grow in their skills.
Hire leadership in touch with the industry. Invest in your people; they are not mere (cheap) tools in a tool box to wear out and discard. Instill integrity from all employees- top to bottom.
Practiced articulating my worth as a sales representative and territory manager. Prepared curious questions for the hiring manager, associated interviewers, and regarding company health. Pocketed some interesting/memorable tidbits about myself as a person.
