A Brief Overview Under general supervision, supports the pharmacy services in the following areas: (1) Database management; (2) Medical staff involvement; (3) Record retention and assurance of confidentiality; (4) Pharmacy office management; and (5) Systems management. Regularly performs complex and sensitive pharmacy services-related tasks using discretion and own judgment, serves as resource in such situations for pharmacy staff and formulates documents and reports for the director of pharmacy technology. Coordinates administrative support of pharmacy services, and manages affiliated inpatient pharmacy services in accordance with professional standards, regulatory and licensing agency policies, and federal and state laws related to the practice of pharmacy. What you will do * Demonstrates mastery associated with applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, the compliance accountability program, code of ethics, as well as other policies and procedures to assure pharmacy compliance associated with automated dispensing equipment. * Composes written communication, proposals, reports, policies, and agendas based on information obtained. Establishes priorities and maintains records of decisions made and/or actions taken. Maintains regular communication with other hospital departments or units to ensure efficient processing of work, obtains and relays information and resolves problems. * Responsible for directing the workflow of other team members to ensure a productive and efficient environment associated with process excellence implementation of identified improvements. * Actively works with hospital and medical staff regarding the obtaining of, or access to patient/hospital related data from pharmacy computer system databases. Utilizes standardized or specialized statistical packages to analyze data. * Prepares, validates, and disseminates routing and special technology reports as requested. Maintains working knowledge of existing computer hardware and software systems. Responsible for needs assessment, selection and evaluation of new and/or existing software programs for the department. * Demonstrates mastery in extracting data from hospital software systems and manipulates data to usable format. Designs, creates reports, prints, and disseminates routing and special system reports to pharmacy staff and others as requested. * Collaborates with management personnel from system affiliates to coordinate and integrate the delivery of pharmacy services across the full continuum of patient care. * Coordinates the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of service excellence initiatives implemented by the department. * Responsible for new employee orientation/training manuals and/or videos, to assure understanding of standard work requirements. * Actively manages and responsible for all components associated with drug delivery and accountability for medications delivered to patients via automation technology. What you will do * Under pharmacist supervision, accurately inputs and/or prepares labels and packages inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions to maintain an efficient, accurate, and high-quality medication delivery system. * Successfully communicates with nursing staff, physicians, customers, co-workers, supervisors, and management and participates in interdepartmental work groups and committees as assigned to promote high-quality communication and prevent patient harm. * Demonstrates proficient knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, and regulation limitations, personal protective equipment, and promotion of patient safety to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance. * Performs clerical functions such as, but not limited to, billing, patient demographics and pharmacy inventory to promote an efficient medication distribution system. * Assists with the collection and maintenance of records as needed by the Pharmacy Department and applicable accreditations such as Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, Joint Commission, NIOSH, OSHA, or other accreditations as may be required by law, practice standards, or departmental policy to maintain compliance with accreditation entities. * May be responsible for assisting customers on the phone or in person. * May run reports and use the automated dispensing system. Monthly inspections of medication stocks in assigned areas. Assist with inventory to prevent drug shortages or excesses. * Proficiency of compounding practices, i.e. botox, chemotherapy.
