A Brief Overview
The ResidentAssistant is accountable for assisting with personal care to residents in accordance with their care plan. Performs scheduled activity. Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a sanitary, orderly and attractive environment.
What you will do
* Assists the resident with all facets of daily living including meals, medications, housekeeping and laundry.
* Respects residents' valuables and personal property, including but not limited to clothing, dentures, glasses/contact lenses, hearing aids, and prosthetic devices.
* Reports any changes observed in residents' condition or behavior.
* Answers call lights, anticipates resident needs, and completes frequent rounding. Prepares residents' rooms and their belongings for admission, transfer, and discharge.
* Follows proper procedures for linen changes, soiled laundry, cleaning of furniture, equipment, and utensils. Follows proper procedure for reporting equipment that is in need of repair.
* Assistsresidents to activities, assist with or direct activities.
* Keeps work environment clean and tidy, including resident rooms, kitchen, utility rooms, staff lounge, refrigerators and storage areas. Replenish supplies in each area as needed; gloves, soap, paper towels and kitchen supplies.
* Prepares dining room for meals. Is familiar with the diet extensions when preparing special diets. Courteously serves meals with attention to eye appeal, sanitation, and temperature. Follows sanitary food handler techniques. Reports poor quality or unsafe food so it is not served.

This job requires successful completion of our internal CNA Training class within 30 days of hire with licensure completed 120 days following class completion. Provides basic personal service to residents/patients under the direction and supervision of an RN, LPN, or LVN.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Resident Care Duties
:
Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as grooming, bathing and dressing, as requested by residents or directed by supervisor.
Attends to the personal care needs of residents in a timely manner.
Regularly review, follow, and adhere to residents' service plans.
Document and report care provided and resident observations.
Perform vital signs and heights and weights.
Respond to emergency calls in a timely manner.
Monitors the safety and well-being of residents.
Reports changes in resident status, health or otherwise to supervisor.
Demonstrate knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
Provide information, encourage, and participate with residents in activity focused programs.
May be asked to provide assistance to residents in Assisted Living and/or Memory Care.
Relationship Duties:
Deal tactfully when personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Demonstrate a passion for caring as evidenced by interaction with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors.
Relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the community.
Department Duties
:
Attends, participates and contributes to monthly staff meetings addressing resident, departmental and community needs.
Responsible for cleaning common areas, occupied and vacant apartments, and perform laundry services in accordance with Community policies and procedures.
Not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
Effectively communicate in the English language and follow written and verbal instructions.
High School diploma or GED (preferred).
EXPERIENCE:
6-months experience in a senior living community (preferred)
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid Adult Basic First Aid and CPR Certification (preferred).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and /or lift a minimum of 25# to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., through out the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.

This position will provide operational support at the facility, providing onsite coverage and assisting with coordinating services for residents. This position requires physical activity, as one person provides direct care/supervision to individuals in a home setting. This is a pilot project through HINT and applicants must be flexible and willing to work within a team environment.
The hourly range based on skills, qualifications, and experience: $18-$20/hour
This is a part time position and will require non-standard hours due to the 24/7 housing program. Benefits include Dental, Vision, 4% match of 403(b) retirement fund, sick time, free virtual medical and counseling services. The position is based on-site in South Minneapolis.

Respond to medical and/or mental health emergencies, including Narcan administration.
Assistresidents with laundry, cooking and other physical tasks according to their individual goals and needs.

Use Harm Reduction strategies to provide support for individuals who may be actively using drugs
Provide emotional support to residents and their families with respect and compassion, using Positive Support Strategies as needed.
Coordinate resident care with other agencies, including clinics, pharmacies, social workers, the HINT onsite team, etc.
Communicate professionally and in a timely manner all pertinent information regarding resident's physical and emotional condition both externally and internally while maintaining the HIPAA privacy rule.
Document appropriately in organization's electronic record.
Keep up-to-date on medical and psycho-social information of HIV/AIDS disease, harm reduction and positive supports - including knowledge of ever-changing populations and rapidly evolving treatment options.
Attend regular staff meetings and annual trainings.
Practice appropriate infection control and universal precaution techniques.
Understand and practice procedures to ensure client confidentiality.
Understand and uphold the Vulnerable Adults Act and HIPPA regulations.
Make telephone calls to clinics, social workers or emergency personnel if necessary.
Ability to be part of the on-call rotation when requested.

Overnight ResidentAssistant The purpose of this position is to provide direct and daily care to all residents, including residents of the Home Care Services (HCS) program. Home Care Services Duties and Responsibilities:
• Correctly and safely dispense medications (liquids, tablets, capsules, eye drops, ear drops, inhalers, etc.) to residents in the Home Care Service (HCS) program.
• Provide housekeeping, laundry and meal preparation to residents in the HCS program as needed.
• Provide assistance with bathing, grooming and other personal cares and/or delegated tasks under the direction of Nursing to residents in the HCS as needed.
• Correctly and safely operate medical devices and equipment as needed (i.e. blood pressure cuff).
• Communicate with Nursing and other ResidentAssistants to make sure that medication administration and home care tasks for HCS residents are completed in a timely manner during each shift, and document those tasks appropriately in the electronic charting software.
• Recognize when it is appropriate to contact the on-call nurse for support to ensure safety of residents in the HCS program.
• Meet with nursing staff every 30 days after initial hire and every 90 days thereafter for assessment/observation of delegated nursing tasks.

IV. Working Conditions and Environment:
This position is located in a supportive housing building for adults living with HIV/AIDS and other disabilities. Many of the residents are formerly homeless individuals. The building is accessible and smoke free. This position staffs the building 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days per year.
The position includes doing laundry, housekeeping, cooking, lifting/transferring residents and other physical tasks. This position requires the manual dexterity to use various types of medical equipment, as well as the cognitive ability to perform more detailed tasks such as medication administration, charting, filing and copying. The person in this position will be exposed to body fluids, infections, odors.
