PURPOSE OF POSITION: Registered Nurses provide professional nursing care services with emphasis on service to patients requiring care related to public health programs, perform professional nursing following prescribed rules, regulations, professional practices, and special orders from physicians; may supervise licensed practical nurses and/or home health aides, and perform related work as assigned by a public health nurse. WORK PERFORMED/JOB FUNCTIONS: Assessment of the client's individual needs and level of service required through coordination of linking people to needed personal health service providers, and ensuring the provision of health care when otherwise unavailable. Assessment of inmate's medical care needs including providing health assessment as required for clients with chronic health needs, Mantoux screening for tuberculosis; reviews, refills, and arranging for medication required within the correctional facility; responsible for disposal and destruction of unused medications; communication with and obtaining physician orders that affect inmate's medical needs, arranging for medically necessary care outside of the correctional facility. Provide family planning services both in the office and at clinic sites. Teaching the client basic principles of healthy living by applying information from related fields such as nutrition, dental hygiene, and safety.
