The Bank of Virginia remained true to its history as a pioneer in consumer credit, and in 1953 became the first bank to offer a credit card.
In fact, the Bank of Virginia created the holding company, Virginia Commonwealth Corporation, in 1962 in order to circumvent the restrictive branching laws.
The bank changed its name several times finally becoming Security National Bank in 1971.
