The Bank took on a new name again in 1946 to reflect the expansion of bank services beyond those traditionally offered by Morris Plan Banks.
The Bank of Virginia remained true to its history as a pioneer in consumer credit, and in 1953 became the first bank to offer a credit card.
In fact, the Bank of Virginia created the holding company, Virginia Commonwealth Corporation, in 1962 in order to circumvent the restrictive branching laws.
The bank changed its name several times finally becoming Security National Bank in 1971.
The Norfolk bank --Fidelity Savings and Trust Company--was the original Morris Plan Bank founded by Arthur J. Morris in 1910. It remained the Bank of Virginia until the company became Signet in 1986.
