BECENE company history timeline

1907

From the decade between 1910 to 1920, there was much cultural discourse on the question of swimming as a feminine activity and what exactly that activity would look like. It wasn’t until 1907 that a great leap forward occurred when Australian performer Annette Kellerman was arrested in Boston for wearing a sleeveless, form-fitting one-piece swimsuit that reached from her neck to her feet.

1932

In 1932 it was the French fashion designer Jacques Heim who first created a small and skimpy swimsuit, enough to call it "the atome" because of its small size.

1933

The actress Dolores del Rio holds the title of the first major star to wear a two-piece swimsuit on screen in the 1933 film Flying Down to Rio.

1946

On July 5, 1946, a French engineer called Louis Réard unveiled an outfit "smaller than the world's smallest swimsuit." It arrived with a bang, so named after the nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll, and remains popular to this day

1951

The first Miss World contest took place in 1951, and was won by Sweden’s Kiki Hakansoon, with all competitors donning the garment.

1958

In 1958 Lycra was introduced by the homonymous company, a material that allowed to cover the body by drying it quickly.

1960

In 1960, Brian Hyland’s song, ‘Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini,’ prompted a spike in sales.

2020

The colors for this summer 2020 are the classic pure white and sparkling black that defeat boredom with flounces, ruffles, volants and heart-shaped necklines.

bss G-Club thinks about picking the right model in the infinite ocean of the new swimwear 2020 proposals, with a selection of the 15 coolest swimsuits for the upcoming summer.
