Lowe claims that one lady was so excited at winning that she called out “Bingo” instead of “Beano.” But the word Bingo had been used in Britain since the eighteenth century and had been used in Pennsylvania since around 1900.
An entrepreneur named Edwin S. Lowe adapted the game of bingo from one called beano that he witnessed being played at a country fair in the 1920s.
Edwin Lowe, a toy merchandiser, ran into the game in Atlanta in 1929 at a traveling carnival.
Now, by 1934, just five years after Lowe adapted beano to become bingo, it was estimated that 10,000 games of bingo were being played every week in the USA.
Casino.org is the world’s leading independent online gaming authority, providing trusted online casino news, guides, reviews and information since 1995.
Cyberbingo.com, which was established way back in 1996, is believed to have been the first ever online Bingo site.
But it was not until 2003 when, in co-ordination with the massive online poker movement, virtual bingo really made a name for itself with many dedicated sites being created.
Another notable milestone occurred 2013, when 15 Network — an online bingo players’ network — officially launched and enabled the game to move into the lucrative mobile gaming market.
