In 1942 James Raymond Bird teamed up with a college friend to start a small job shop in Cleveland, Ohio which led to the development of a line of products used to measure RF power generated by television and radio transmitters.
In 1964, it introduced a new product at the New York World's Fair: vinyl siding.
Bird Group was founded in 1971 with the set-up of Bird Travels.
As the decade ended, Bird had to report that it earned no profit in 1980, an occurrence unheard of in its 186-year history.
But, at the same time, the company changed its name from "Bird and Son" to "Bird Inc." in 1983 to show it had become a modernized company.
Bird was chosen to clean up a dumping area behind a Texas refinery and Bird celebrated in 1990 by once again changing its name, this time to its current name, Bird Corporation.
The joint venture to fabricate vinyl replacement windows, just formed the previous year, was blamed for the bulk of 1993's $28 million in losses.
The company ended 1994 with a net loss of $3.68 million, a major improvement over the previous year.
In 1994 Bird began to jettison major operations in order to regain its financial footing.

August 29, 2002 Bird signed a contract with the French SAGEM Company, to setup a joint-venture company named Ningbo Sagem Electronic Co.
October 28, 2002 Bird held the formal and grand ceremony celebrating the tenth anniversary of Bird and the completion of the Bird Industrial Zone.
December 17, 2002 Bird celebrated for producing the 10 millionth mobile phones in the new industrial zone.
March 2003 Bird walked next step to expand the sales network to establish another 13 new branches.
September 1, 2003 Bird‘s GSM mobile phone won the title of “The China Famous Brand” by the Bureau of National Quality Technology Supervision and Inspection.
March 10, 2004 Bird won the title of “Zhejiang Famous Brand” at the first year.
June 2005 As the outcome of the “Sixth CCID China Mobile Phone User Satisfying Survey”, Bird won the four awards of “Users’ Satisfied Brand Award”, “Users’ Honest Service Award”, “Users’ Maintenance Quality Award” and “Environmental Protection and Health Award.”
