Position Responsibilities:
Set up, operate, and adjust numericallycontrolled milling machines, utilizing various control media, program documents, holding fixtures, and cutting tools, or manually entering required data to meet quality requirements
Obtain information from drawings, documents, sketches, and verbal instructions to prepare for machining operations
Make necessary preparations and adjustments to ready the machine for operation, including installing various cutting tools during machining cycles as authorized
Use measuring instruments and gauges to check cutting tools and parts for conformance to specifications and prints
Assist planners or programmers in determining the final numericalcontrol program as authorized
Mount and check cutting tools in holders, ensuring proper loading in machine magazines or spindles

The Opportunity
The CNC Machinist will have responsibility for the setup and operation of miscellaneous computerized numericalcontrol (CNC) and/or manual machines in Mod 7. Additionally, the CNC Machinist will:
1. Set-up and operation of miscellaneous CNC and/or manual machines, specifically mill experience.

7. Remove burrs, sharp edges, tool marks and other irregularities from machined parts to ensure they are in accordance with engineering blueprints, and tolerance requirements.
8. Maintain proper identification of parts per planning specifications and ensure that accurate and reliable records and documentation are maintained.
9. Communicate change of shift requirements to ensure team members receive accurate and reliable information and documentation.
10. Perform routine maintenance of machines and equipment operated.
11. Clean, organize and maintain cellular manufacturing work area in accordance with established standards.
12. Ensure the continuous flow of materials and parts through the Cell.
13. Adhere to all safety standards and regulations.
Qualifications
High School or GED and a minimum of 2 years of machining experience, specifically mill experience. Reads, understands and correctly interprets blueprints, planning and manufacturing specifications. Demonstrated working knowledge of machining and/or testing related mathematical concepts. Has basic knowledge of inspection requirements and techniques. Rough burrs machined parts. May train, provide guidance and assist in developing lower skill level team members.
* Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. from floor to waist.

Key Responsibilities:
Program CNC machine tools using Unigraphics, PowerMill, and/or Mastercam for multi-axis operations
Set up and operate 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC milling centers with precision
Operate conventional shop equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and saws
Select and set up tooling, jigs, fixtures, and correct speeds/feeds for various materials
Set machine reference points and verify part setup, ensuring safe clearances and preventing collisions
Order materials and tooling, ensuring proper certifications and traceability when required
Develop and manage flight work packages including documentation upload, FIOS generation, and service coordination
Estimate labor and materials for job completion
Provide walk-in job support and collaborate with engineers on drawing interpretation and revisions
Maintain strict compliance with all fabrication procedures and safety standards
Support multi-disciplinary projects in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Stay current on machining and fabrication technologies to support continuous improvement
Machine complex components to tight aerospace tolerances
Work independently with minimal supervision while delivering high-quality, on-time results
Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and man lifts safely and efficiently
Assist in the development of Job Hazard Analyses to support NASA safety protocols
Participate in training for Fall Protection, Shop Machine Safety, and internal job processing software (JobBoss2)
Perform overtime work as needed to meet project delivery schedules
Requirements
Proficient in CNC programming and setup (3-, 4-, and 5-axis)
Experience operating both CNC and manual machine tools
Strong understanding of aerospace tolerances and precision machining practices
Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and CAD models
Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across multiple departments
Valid Virginia Driver's License with a clean record
U.S. Citizenship required
Ability to pass STC and government background check
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience supporting aerospace, defense, or research manufacturing
Familiarity with NASA or government fabrication environments
Knowledge of JobBoss2 or similar ERP/job tracking systems

The CNC Operator is responsible for editing CNC programs and operating CNC machines to achieve product specifications. This position requires following standard work instructions of each required specification ensuring quality production of parts.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:
Set up and operation of 3 axis and Horizontal CNC Mills utilizing set up sheets provided
Carryout production, inspection, and machine operation duties
Read and interpret prints, sketches, work orders, and follow verbal instructions.
Use various measuring tools to perform first article and in process inspections (calipers, micrometers, height gage, etc.)
Operate basic shop equipment (band saw, grinders, etc.)
Build fixtures for work holding as required
Deburr and clean parts as required
Modify G-Code programs and adjust offsets as required to meet product conformity
Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and production
Replace cutting tools as required to meet production conformity
Setup and operation of manual machine tools as required in support of CNC operations.
Perform daily maintenance checks as required; includes greasing and/or oiling the machine and free equipment of chips
Train entry level CNC machinists
Effectively monitor and tend to one or more machine tools
Other Duties as assigned.
Additional Job Requirements
Minimum three years of machine tool setup and operation experience in an ISO/AS/MIL STD prototype/job shop environment, utilizing complex documentation and verbal/written instruction.
Must have a high level of attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills

Basic familiarity with the use of hand tools.
Knowledge of machining the following materials: Stainless Steel, Aluminum, and assorted plastics.
