In 1842, the seeds were sown at a meeting of the Fairford and Cirencester Farmers Club.
Earl Bathurst leased a site to build the College and construction in the Victorian Gothic style began in April 1845.
The first 25 students were admitted in September 1845 and the following year student numbers increased to 108.
The first school in Bogor was established in 1876 under Rudolph Scheffer, under the name landbouwschool te Buitenzorg (agriculture school). New schools for different fields were opened in the following years for Native Indonesians.
The origin of IPB started 76 years ago, when the first agricultural higher education was held in the country in 1940.
Since 1941 the Bogor Agricultural School, or Middelbare Landbouwschool, has been established, which became the forerunner of IPB.
Sometime after the declaration of independence in 1946, the Ministry of Social Welfare of the new Republic of Indonesia upgraded the Veterinary School in Bogor to the College of Veterinary Medicine (PTKH).
The Netherlands returned to Indonesia and retook control of the institution in 1947, thus Landbouwkundige Faculteit was reopened as the Faculteit Voor Landbouw-Wetenschappen, which had majors in Agriculture and Forestry.
In 1948 the PTKH or College of Veterinary Medicine was changed to Faculteit voor Diergeneeskunde under Universiteit van Indonesië (later the University of Indonesia).
After Indonesia gained its independence in 1950, Landbouw-wetenschappen became the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Indonesia, with three departments — Socio-Economics, Physical Sciences, and Forestry.
In the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Agricultural Faculty buildings, the University of Indonesia, on April 27, 1952, Bung Karno delivered a speech that suggests the importance of providing food for the people.
In 1957 the Department of Land Fishery was formed.
September 1, 1963, Bogor Agricultural University, or (IPB) was established.
IPB was founded on September 1, 1963 by the decision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education No.
91/1963 and approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No.
The first modern degree programme, started in 1984, was in co-operation with Reading University - a BSc (Hons) degree in Rural Land Management.
On December 26, 2000 the Indonesia government changed IPB's autonomy status to a state-owned university.
The RAC had been independent of government control since its foundation until 2001 when it first received funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), allowing it to widen access to its courses to students of all backgrounds.
Furthermore, in 2005, in accordance with the national trend, Nutrition was developed into a Nutrition Science Undergraduate Study Program which was the first Nutrition Science Undergraduate Study Program in Eastern Indonesia.
In 2005, IPB applied the minor and major system instead of the national curriculum system.
In 2006, began to accept new students graduating from high school.
In 2007 it is expected that IPB is ready conceptually to become a research-based university.
In 2011, such a selection was then elevated or adopted into the national system in the new student admissions by State Universities (PTN) throughout Indonesia.
The first accreditation obtained by the Nutrition Science study program was accreditation by BAN-PT which received an A accreditation in 2012.
And until January 2016, IPB has graduated 133,778 students.
Then, in 2016 along with the implementation of the evidence-based learning (EBL) system, the Undergraduate Nutrition Science Study Program only accepted high school graduates and did not accept student assignments.
In 2017, the organizational structure at FKM underwent a revision where the Undergraduate Nutrition Science Study Program became under the Department of Nutrition.
