**Job Summary:**
The MedicalAssistant is a key component of our team that works closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care to our community, ensuring services are provided within the MedicalAssisting scope and state guidelines. The MedicalAssistant will be responsible for reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Provides excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
+ Prepares & reviews patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
+ Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight and height
+ Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stock supplies, track referrals, and answer phones as needed
+ Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
+ Other duties as assigned
**Education:**
+ High School Degree or GED
**Licensure/Certification:**
MedicalAssisting certification from one of the following (required within 12 months of start date):
+ Certified MedicalAssistant (CMA); American Association of MedicalAssisting, Registered MedicalAssistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified ClinicalMedicalAssistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified MedicalAssistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified MedicalAssistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
+ If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina)
BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
**Experience:**
+ One year of medicalassistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required)

The Regional Float MedicalAssistant II role at Akron Children's Hospital Pediatrics (ACHP) provides Proficient level clinical and administrative support to designated ACHP locations within a specified region on a rotating basis, for patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse and assist with training needs within scope.
Responsibilities:
Prepares patients for examination; takes and records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by the Providers according to policy and procedure
Collects data that contributes to the assessment and evaluation of individualized care and needs of assigned patients, including discharge plans, under the direction of the Licensed Nurse
Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens in accordance with policy and procedure
Communicates patient findings and pertinent information to the Provider and/or Licensed Nurse utilizing appropriate communication/documentation processes
Accurate and timely documentation of care within EPIC system
Performs point-of-service activities such as appointment scheduling, visit preparation, co-payment collection and patient tracking as needed
Performs clinical duties that are department specific such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings, and any other procedures
Performs routine task and general office duties such as faxing, copying, filing, etc. as needed
Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms
Develops and maintains positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
Triage work related issues with little assist from proper hierarchy
Actively participates in departmental process improvement projects
Follows safety policies and procedures in the delivery of care to assure a safe environment for patients, families, and other staff members

**Education:**
+ High School Degree or GED
**Licensure/Certification:**
Active MedicalAssisting certification from one of the following (required):
+ Certified MedicalAssistant (CMA); American Association of MedicalAssisting, Registered MedicalAssistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified ClinicalMedicalAssistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified MedicalAssistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified MedicalAssistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
+ If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina)
BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
**Experience:**
+ One year of medicalassistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required)
+ Two years of clerical experience in a physician's office (preferred, not required)
**Skills & Abilities:**
+ Possesses problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
+ Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
