Borough of Norwood history

In 1868, 4 years before Norwood became a town, his descendant George H. Morse tore Ezra’s house down and built a new house on the same property in roughly the same location.

In 1870, Frank O. Winslow (of the Winslow Brothers tannery) petitioned Dedham to allow a High School to be built in South Dedham.

On December 22, 1871 a meeting was called in Village Hall and a committee was selected to petition the formation of a new town, made up of South Dedham and small portion of Walpole.

On February 10th, 1872, the following Bill was presented to the State Senate (you can click here for a PDF or scroll below)

Incorporated as a Boro on November 6, 1893 from Ridley Township.

H. Morrill, in memory of their beloved daughter, Sarah Bond Morrill, who died of typhoid fever while on a pleasure trip in Florida, March 7, 1895.

Founded in 1907, the goals and objectives of the Norwood Historical Society are:

History of Norfolk County, Massachusetts, 1622 - 1918 Pertinent information about Native Americans in New England, the people who emigrated to New England, the settlements and charters given to groups here, and detailed reports of living conditions.

1930's Municipal Airport Opens

1960's - St Timothy's Roman Catholic Church opens, Route 95 completed

The two-story, symmetrical brick house has a gable roof and a one and one half story wing that has a gambrel roof. It was restored in 1971 and is open as a historic house operated by the Norwood Historical Society.

Schoolhouse Number 7, also known as the “Little Red Brick Schoolhouse”, stood on the corner of Pleasant and Sumner streets until 2009 when it was moved and meticulously rebuilt on the grounds of the George H Morse house.
