1806

The treaty was recognized as a fundamental law of the German constitution and formed the basis of all subsequent treaties until the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806.

1827

In 1827, Bremen, under Johann Smidt, its mayor at that time, purchased land from the Kingdom of Hanover, to establish the city of Bremerhaven (Port of Bremen) as an outpost of Bremen because of the increased silting up of the river Weser.

1837

Brauerei Beck & Co KG, a brewery, was founded in 1837 and remains in operation today.

1857

The shipping company The North German Lloyd (NDL) was founded in 1857.

1868

The business was founded in 1868 by Wm.

1872

In 1872, the Bremen Cotton Exchange was founded.

1884

Organized in 1884 to carry on the business built up by Louis Huenke, who made it possible for New Bremen to have the first creamery in northwestern Ohio.

1888

The city of Bremerhaven joined the Bremen state in 1947. It attained increased economic importance as a leader in international trade and world shipping by entering the German customs union (Zollverein) in 1888, through expanding its port facilities, and by developing a manufacturing industry.

1894

Organized January 31, 1894 by Louis Huenke, Fred Vogelsang, Henry Dierker, Wm.

1901

Rabe, who conducted it until 1901 when it was incorporated under the name of The Rabe Manufacturing Company

1905

A large warehouse, measuring 40 by 90 feet, and an office building were erected in 1905.

1910

From Piqua, the company came to New Bremen in 1910 when the firm name was changed to The O.O. Poorman Company.

1918

Webster wasn't the first to come up with this concept; the lift truck was initially invented in 1918 by Lester Sears of Cleveland, Ohio.

Organized in 1918 as successor to The O.O. Poorman Company.

1923

Henrich Focke, Georg Wulf and Werner Naumann founded Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau AG in Bremen in 1923.

1929

Borgward, an automobile manufacturer, was founded in 1929, and is today part of Daimler AG.

The Grothaus Block housed the United States Post Office, N.B. Telephone Co., A.H. Albert, Undertaker and Otto J. Boesel, Attorney. [1929 Listings]

1945

Following a two-year, health-related hiatus, Carl, his son Jim, and brother Allen founded Crown Controls Company to market thermostats manufactured by Master Electric Company in 1945.

1947

In 1947, Master Electric sold the manufacturing operation back to the family team for $85,000.

The city of Bremerhaven joined the Bremen state in 1947.

1949

On a hint from a business associate, they began producing and marketing television antenna rotators in 1949.

1950

In 1950, Allen Dicke traded his stake in Crown to Carl in exchange for Carl's share of a local farm.

1952

Crown Controls reached a tragic turning point in 1952, when 50-year-old founder Carl Dicke died, leaving his 31-year-old son to manage the business on his own.

1957

Tom Bidwell, an engineer at Crown, adapted the concept to the LT-500 (500-pound capacity lift truck), a "walkie lifter" he designed in 1957.

1963

In 1963, the Industrial Designers Institute awarded the resulting hand-controlled pallet truck Crown's first national Design Excellence Award.

1990

Launched in 1990, Crown's FC line of vehicles offered advanced ergonomics that improved comfort and efficiency, including tilt steering; adjustable seating; fingertip controls; on-board diagnostics; and more.

1997

Industry analyst The Freedonia Group (Cleveland) forecast that the United States lift truck industry's rally would continue, growing to $1.8 billion by 1997.

2001

2001 was an interesting time to launch a communications company.

2011

After much negotiation and fundraising efforts, the depot building was acquired and moved, then eventually renovated and rededicated in 2011 at its new home on Douglas Road.
