Bridgerland Applied Tech Clg company history timeline

1971

17, 1971, when the Utah State Board of Vocational Education unanimously voted to create a new vocational district that would serve Box Elder, Cache, and Rich counties.

1973

Director Gordon worked on promoting technical education in Box Elder until his retirement in 1975, when Doctor Richard L. Maughan came to BTECH. Doctor Maughan began his leadership and served as Director, Superintendent, and President for 40 years, until his retirement in 2015. It opened under Director Stanley S. Richardson, the former State Supervisor of Vocational Agriculture in Idaho, who served until 1973.

1984

BTECH was finally able to move to its own location in 1984 when it came to what is now its Logan Campus, the old Wurlitzer piano factory.

1992

The AVCs were redesignated as Applied Technology Centers in 1992.

2001

In June 2001, a special session of the Legislature passed House Bill 1003, creating the Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT), the state’s tenth and newest institution of the Utah System of Higher Education under the State Board of Regents.

2002

In September 2002, UCAT received approval from the State Board of Regents to begin offering three Associate of Applied Technolog (AAT) degrees.

2007

In 2007 the Legislature merged the Southeast ATC campus into the College of Eastern Utah, leaving the total number of UCAT campuses at eight.

2017

In 2017 the Utah College of Applied Technology was reorganized into the Utah System of Technical Colleges resulting, once again, in a legislatively mandated name change to Bridgerland Technical College.

2020

BTECH’s first purpose-built building was funded as the #1 priority in the State in the 2020 Legislative Session and later became another casualty of COVID-19.
