Brunswick Police Dept company history timeline

1840

In 1794 The Barracks were burned and the “Union” or Old City Hall was built and used as a courthouse until about 1840, when the present building was erected at a cost of approximately $30,000.00 with money obtained from the state.

1937

The constable’s office was founded in 1937 following the Great Depression when the citizens held an election and voted into office two Constables.

1960

The Brunswick Hills Police Department was originally founded in the early 1960's and was titled The Brunswick Hills Constables Office.

Although the story of the Brunswick Division of Police officially begins in 1960, prior to that, the former Brunswick Township was policed by two constables.

1966

Mrozik served until 1966, overseeing notable events such as the purchase in Oct.

1969

In 1969, officer Jack Keisel was fired for allegedly being “involved in an altercation, while off-duty, at a local tavern,” according to news reports.

1971

1974

In 1974, the present day City Hall at 4095 Center Road was built and the police station was relocated to that building.

1978

In 1978 The Brunswick Hills Police Department was formed as a part time department supplementing the sheriff's office.

1992

BPD remained in that police station until 1992 when the current police facility and jail were built connected to the City Hall.

2001

In 2001, an independent investigation cleared the department of any criminal wrongdoing, although then-chief Patrick Beyer called the incident a sobering learning experience.

2016
