1903

Cuthbertson drew the modifications, and he and Davidson also crewed, winning three straight races to return the cup to Canada for the first time since 1903.

1929

George Cuthbertson was born in 1929, in Brantford, Ontario.

1939

In Europe, Balzaretti Modigliani in Italy obtained the rights to the Owens patents, and transferred them to Saint-Gobain in 1939.

1942

In 1942 the first fiberglass laminates made from PPG CR-38 and CR-39 resins were produced.

1943

At the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1943, exploratory projects were launched to build structural aircraft parts from composite materials.

1953

Beginning in 1953, the two young men built about 80 Water Rat dinghies.

1954

The builder selected was Germanborn Erich Bruckmann, who had emigrated to Canada just two years after George Hinterhoeller, in 1954.

1957

The major world event was the launch of the Soviet Sputnik satellite in 1957 and the space race that it prompted.

1959

In 1959, aircraft designer George Cassian walked in the door of Cuthbertson's office in Port Credit, Ontario.

1961

Their partnership was formed in 1961 as Cuthbertson & Cassian.

In Japan, A. Shindo developed high strength graphite fibers using polyacryonitrile as the precursor in 1961, replacing the rayon and pitch precursors used previously.

1963

Hinterhoeller incorporated in 1963 and, in all, built 40 Y-Flyers.

1965

In 1965, Ian Morch of the Belleville Marine Yard commissioned C&C to design the 31-foot Corvette.

1966

In 1966 he set up his own boatbuilding company, Bruckmann Manufacturing, in Oakville, Ontario.

1968

In 1968, she won the SORC, which was a series of six races with the major two being from St Petersburg to Fort Lauderdale and from Miami to Nassau.

1969

In time, he also moved to the United States to take a job with Luders Marine Construction in Stamford, Conn., and so began his distinguished career." At left, George Cassian, George Cuthbertson and Perry Connolly in high spirits in 1969 at the launching of Manitou.

The year of the merger, 1969, was a high-profile year for the young company.

In 1969, Hinterhoeller's 57 employees built 181 boats.

In 1969 boron-epoxy rudders were installed on an F-4 jet made by General Dynamics.

1970

First off the line was Redhead, taken to the 1970 SORC with Bruce Kirby, editor of One Design & Offshore magazine, at the helm.

Probably the most popular model of all time was the C&C 27, introduced in 1970 and reissued in four versions, plus a 26-foot version that looked a lot like the last 27 iteration.

Jose C. DaPonte, the President and Owner of C&C Marine has built his life around building quality boats since the early 1970’s.

1971

In addition, in 1971 Endurance, a C&C 43, won the Chicago-Mackinac in a fleet of more than 300, Cuthbertson notes.

The next year, 1971, the C&C 39 was introduced.

1973

In the spring of 1973, Cuthbertson burned out and retired to his farm to recharge his batteries.

By the end of 1973, there were 180 employees producing 480 boats in six models, plus four models at Bruckmann's plant.

1977

In 1977, the Landfall series of dedicated cruisers was initiated.

1978

And a C&C won the 1978 Canada's Cup.

Workers were trained by C&C staff, and in 1978 production of the C&C 30E, 24, and Mega began.

1986

After opening the new shop, “Sea Sport” boats were born in 1986.

1990

Into the 1990’s Sea Sport boats expanded further, developing relationships with several local dealerships and again expanding their fleet adding the 32’ Pacific Catamaran.

1998

In 1998, the Fairport Marine Company, which had bought Tartan, purchased the name and remaining molds.

2000

During the nineties they were the builder behind the scenes for Dick Lema, (noted designer and previous Lema brand Owner). In 2000 the opportunity presented itself to purchase the NorthCoast Boats brand name and hull molds.

2011

The group who purchased Sea Sport boats had acquired the rights to produce C-Dory, Osprey, and Skagit Orca boats and moved to a smaller facility in Ferndale, WA. In 2011, that group made the decision that it was time to close the doors at their facility.
