Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment will be considered for this position(s). Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction and indirect supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs (SCEP), Incumbent help persons committed to State correctional facilities prepare to become productive and contributing members of society by training them in academic subjects and by helping them to develop socially acceptable attitudes and interests. The teacher gives individual and group instruction, conduct assessments and testing, and participate as members of an interdisciplinary treatment team. The teacher has responsibility for supervising the conduct of the students while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custody responsibilities in time of emergency. Is required to maintain a valid teaching credential recognized by the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction (SAI) and with direction and monitoring from the classroom teacher, the Teaching Assistant (TA) will provide instructional support to teachers. The TA's duties involve providing tutorial instruction to students in order to provide special instruction to those needing instructional support the opportunity to participate more fully in the program. The TA will process, store and retrieve information on a personal computer using word processing, database, and spreadsheet computer applications. The TA will assist in standardize testing and review student transcripts. The TA will supervise and train clerks and clearly outline work performance expectations to incarcerated persons under the TA's supervision.

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction and indirect supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs (SCEP), Incumbent helps people committed to State correctional facilities prepare to become productive and contributing members of society by teaching them academic skills in literacy and numeracy and by helping them develop socially acceptable attitudes and interests. The teacher gives individual and group instruction, conducts informal assessments and secured testing, and participates as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team. The teacher has responsibility for supervising the conduct of the incarcerated people while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custody responsibilities in time of emergency. Is required to maintain a valid teaching credential recognized by the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
This is a 12 month Limited Term position that may be extended to 24 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Under the general supervision of the Principal and the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction (SAI), the Academic Teacher, CF, implements the California Department of Education (CDE) Adult School learning goals and objectives. Based on the incarcerated students' learning needs, assessment results from the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS), and other educational assessment tools and documents, the teacher will develop lesson plans, assign coursework and provide a course of study based on the specific academic program. The teacher will provide services using several delivery methods (based on individual student needs) such as one-on-one, and/or small group instruction, and/or large group instruction on a pull-out basis. The teacher is required to maintain direct student contact related to the necessary amount of time based on student learning needs and group activities. The teacher will provide guidance to paraprofessional Teaching Assistants (TAs), Inmate Student Aides, Inmate Clerks and Inmate Tutors. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction, the Academic Teacher, CF, helps persons committed to State correctional facilities in the Department of Corrections prepare to become productive and contributing members of society by training them in academic subjects and by helping them to develop socially acceptable attitudes and interests. The academic teacher provides both individual and group instruction, conducts assessment and testing and, in many instances, participates as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team. The academic teacher has responsibility for supervising the conduct of incarcerated students while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custody responsibilities in time of emergency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING (other duties may be assigned):
Plans, organizes, and presents the instructional activities for the program. Implements course content and instructional levels in ways that best meet both the students' and the institution's needs. Attends a combination of 40 hours In-Service Training/On-the-Job Training annually. Cutoff Dates
