**Resp & Qualifications** **PURPOSE:** Performs complex analysis, design, development, automated unit and integration testing, and debugging of computer software ranging from operating system architecture integration and software design to selection of computer systems, language, and/or equipment. Position Summary The Washington Nationals are seeking a software engineer focused on data engineering and infrastructure to join our Baseball Systems team. The data engineer will help ensure our datasets are well organized and accessible for our R&D analysts and other stakeholders in Baseball Operations. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about building impactful solutions around data workflows and enthusiastic about working in a baseball front office. The Washington Nationals Baseball R&D group is responsible for deriving insights from our baseball datasets and building proprietary metrics and data products which are used to inform baseball decision making and processes throughout our organization. As a data engineer in the Baseball Systems group, you'll have the opportunity to work with large, novel baseball datasets including video, pitch tracking, bat tracking, player tracking, biomechanical data, and performance data (i.e. from force plates, pressure mats, or wearable tech). These datasets present interesting engineering challenges given both the size of the datasets and the need to store the data in ways that are easy to access and use. We prefer candidates who are willing to relocate to Washington, DC area for in person work at Nationals Park, but we are willing to consider a fully remote option for exceptional candidates. The Principal Engineer at Oliver Wyman Performance Transformation is crucial to defining, designing, and delivering solutions that achieve breakthrough impact for our clients - all enabled by best-in-class DevSecOps model, Agile practices, architecture and tech stack. As a Principal Engineer, you will work alongside Oliver Wyman partners in Performance Transformation and other practice groups, engage directly with clients to understand their business challenges, and craft optimal solutions to be delivered by OW Performance Transformation specialists and consultants delivering strategy, or products into production. You will own all technology and engineering responsibilities for a cross-functional team covering technology, data science, customer experience and design. When you are a product builder, you will be hands-on defining the architecture, tech stack, leading the engineering team while working with the product owner and designer. You will be instrumental in helping to validate build feasibility, operating costs, handle risk as well as key aspects of security, performance, resiliency, and scalability. Cost benefit and trade-off analysis will be key as you work with the team to build something amazing. You will collocate with the team regularly or occasionally, working remotely at other times. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator and has experience working with both technical and non-technical colleagues in a cross-functional environment. The ideal candidate also has experience pitching and explaining technical architecture and strategy to both technical and non-technical audiences. Additionally, you should bring: Experience with scalable architecture whilst leading and inspiring software development teams Hands-on development and delivery experience with a broad mix of languages and technologies Real passion for solving customer friction through simple and effective software Strong people skills that contribute to an open and collaborative environment Experience working with Agile and Lean approaches such as Continuous Integration and Delivery, TDD, and Rapid Prototyping Experience communicating technical vision to a variety of team members Ability to embrace and reduce uncertainty through continual validated learning Practical experience with refactoring, design patterns, design driven development, system and application design, and application security Experience with small teams that move fast We're also hoping you'll be able to show us experience with some of the following.
