Carmel Catholic High School company history timeline

1962

The boys school opened in 1962, with the girls school opening the next year.

1971

In 1971, under pressure to reduce debts, Bishop David M. Maloney announced the consolidation of Chaplain Kapaun Memorial and Mount Carmel Academy, forming Kapaun Mt.

The school mascot, the Cougar, was introduced in 1971, appearing at athletic contests and events to cheer teams to victory.

1977

The elementary school was also able to celebrate 50 years of service to the community in 1977.

1986

However in 1986, the Carmelites withdrew from the administration of Mt.

1992

In 1992, the Diocese of Wichita parishes expanded the United Catholic Stewardship model for educational funding to include the Catholic high schools.

1996

In the fall of 1996, Reverend Doctor Robert Hartnett joined the parish as pastor, immediately taking an active role in the elementary and high school.

1999

In 1999, KMC updated its facilities following a comprehensive Facilities Master Plan.

2007

The Mount Carmel Alumni and Endowment Foundation was created and Chaired by Attorney Michael F. Phillips in 2007.

2010

In 2010, Mount Carmel reorganized its school structure which would incorporate Upper (6th-12th grades) and Lower (K-5th grades) Schools to its campus.

2017

In the 2017-18 academic year, the KMC community celebrated the school’s 130th anniversary.

2020

Engineering classrooms were renovated in Summer 2020 to transform into a state-of-the-art Engineering Center
