CBRE Americas company history timeline

1916

Christian Rabe started the company in 1916 as a Plumbing Contractor, with the goal of providing services with integrity, quality and competitive pricing.

1954

In 1954, Anthony Patrizia joined the company, bringing the York air conditioning distributorship with him.

1969

In 1969, Jack Dangermond and his wife, Laura, established the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) with $1,100 of their own savings.

1972

ESC was founded by Don McCurdy in 1972.

1976

Founded in 1976 by Russ Grimes and Carol Grimes, Environmental Systems Corporation has provided the best in HVAC services to commercial and industrial clients in the North Alabama and Southern Tennessee area.

In 1976, ESC was an industry pioneer when they partnered with Computer Controls Corporation and began installing Direct Digital Control systems to automate HVAC and lighting equipment in large commercial facilities.

1977

In 1977 Don McCurdy's son, Craig McCurdy joined ESC.

1981

By this time, its ARC/INFO product had been updated 14 times since its 1981 release.

1983

The application's first academic license was granted to the University of Maryland in 1983.

1987

In 1987, ESC became a “Value Added Partner” with Control Systems International (CSI) installing and servicing their product lines for over a decade and a half.

1988

According to the company, PC ARC/INFO was a major milestone in that its release set the stage for future innovation at ESRI. Other noteworthy milestones included the establishment of ESRI's Instructor Certification Program for international distributors and its Business Partner Program in 1988.

1989

The company concluded the decade with a bang, opening regional offices in Boston; Washington, D.C.; Denver; and Austin, Texas in 1989.

1992

These included ArcCAD, as well as a new desktop mapping program called ArcView, which sold 10,000 copies in the first six months of 1992 alone.

1994

In 1994, ESRI's sales reached $150 million, supported by the release of applications for the business-to-business and business-to-consumer markets.

1995

In 1995, offices were opened in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, and Pennsylvania, along with another international office in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

1996

ESRI's sales reached approximately $170 million in 1996.

2002

In July 2002, the company purchased a two-story, 40,000-square-foot office building in Broomfield, Colorado.

2003

Late that year, ESRI's software was used to map and fight wildfire outbreaks in the western United States. It also was in 2003 that ESRI's technology was employed in southern Iraq and Kuwait, as part of a pilot project involving the United States Agency for International Development's Disaster Assistance Response Team.

2022

After being postponed earlier this year, sessions have been announced and registration is open again Chicago Build 2022. (Learn more about Chicago Build 2022.)
