Learn more about our work at ************************** THE OPPORTUNITY Brooklyn Justice Initiatives seeks to reengineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. By providing meaningful pre-trial supervised release and post-conviction sentencing options, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives seeks to use an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant's life and avoid the harmful effects of incarceration. Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is seeking a Case Manager. Reporting to the Supervising Case Manager, the Case Manager's primary focus will be working with individuals who are mandated to engage in Alternative to Incarceration (ATI), Alternative to Detention (ATD), and Early Diversion programming. The Case Manager is responsible for conducting intakes, providing comprehensive case management services including crisis intervention when needed, making and monitoring referrals to external providers, and facilitating individual and group sessions. The Case Manager will stay in regular contact with participants, send court date reminders and submit compliance notices to the court. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide comprehensive, clinically-informed case management services to both English and Spanish speaking participants that address issues such as substance use, mental health, trauma, domestic violence, housing, and educational/vocational needs; Complete intakes and provide case management and individual counseling services (in English and Spanish) to a caseload of short- and long-term mandated participants; Conduct outreach to collateral sources as needed to promote compliance and court monitoring; Assist with data entry and ensure the accuracy of information in the electronic case management system, including entering case notes and assessments, community referrals, and programming and case outcome data Make appropriate referrals to community-based organizations for additional services; Facilitate coordinated service delivery for on-site agencies and community-based agencies; Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation, as needed; Manage and monitor participant compliance with service mandates; Establish and maintain linkages with community partners who can provide age-appropriate interventions and services to court-involved individuals; Provide accurate written and verbal reports to the court and other court stakeholders; Participate in interdisciplinary treatment meetings; Facilitate and develop a range of on-site psychoeducational groups and conduct individual case management sessions; Assist ATI management with the development and implementation of new programs, initiatives, and/or interventions; Assist with administrative responsibilities, as needed; Assist with data collection and management; Assist with grant reporting requirements, as needed; Provide clinical services as described above to program participants on a voluntary basis post-mandate; Attend all required staff meetings and trainings; Attend Brooklyn Justice Initiatives' community-based events after hours, as needed; and Additional relevant tasks, as needed. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 3-4 years of experience working in a social service setting. Experience working in a court or criminal justice setting strongly preferred. Bilingual (English-Spanish) is strongly preferred. Experience with drug/alcohol treatment, mental health services, co-occurring disorders, adolescent development, trauma-informed and strength-based approaches preferred. Candidate must be a skilled communicator, able to work in a multi-disciplinary setting and maintain strong relationships with multiple agencies and organizations both onsite and in the community. Prior experience with the criminal justice system and/or justice-involved communities is a plus - in particular, experience working with youth and young adults, individuals experiencing domestic violence, mental health issues, substance use disorder, and/or homelessness. Position Type: Full time, working 5 days a week on site. Position Location: Brooklyn, New York. Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $28.57 - $35.93 per hour, annually equivalent to $52,000 - $65,400 based on a 35-hour work week and is commensurate with experience. The Justice Center's Transformative Reentry Initiative (TRI) will provide participants with wraparound services focused on restorative practices, employment/educational support, mentorship, and social-emotional support. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court and community-based offices, BJI is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in doing so, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant's life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services like job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. BJI seeks Case Managers for the borough's Supervised Release Program (SRP). Reporting to Supervising Case Managers, Case Managers are the front line of service delivery and key to ensuring that the program meets its mandate. Specifically, Case Managers will supervise SRP participants according to their assigned tier and level; work with participants to identify and address barriers to compliance and court attendance; conduct outreach to participants, court stakeholders, community-based service providers, and collateral contacts; connect participants to appropriate services in the community to support their stabilization, and ensure accurate and timely court reporting on participants' compliance with program requirements. Accurate and timely data entry is a core responsibility for this position. Additionally, Case Managers will co-facilitate pro-social and psycho-educational groups. Specifically, the Clinician, SRP will facilitate CBT-informed sessions for all Tier 2 participants, provide short-term counseling for any participant identified as a strong candidate for mental health support, and external referrals to therapy, as appropriate. This position provides hours towards LCSW accreditation. The Clinician, SRP will not carry a standard SRP caseload. The Clinician, SRP will work with other SRP teams to ensure access to, completion of, and accurate data entry for CBT and other therapeutically-informed sessions to ensure these sessions count toward participants' compliance status.
