In 1974, before the formation of MANY, the federal Runaway and Homeless Youth Act was passed through the grassroots efforts of service providers.
The Texas-based Pennzoil Company bought out Jiffy Lube in 1990 for the "bargain" price of $100 million.
The following year Hindman founded YSI. In early 1992, the company accepted its first student at the Clarinda Academy in Clarinda, Iowa, with a staff of 43 employees.
Figures for 1994 show that it costs approximately $50,000 to put a child into a reform school.
Revenues earned from those programs quadrupled in one year, climbing to $34.7 million by the end of 1994.
Almost 1,200 students were guided through YSI's Juvenile Justice program during fiscal 1995.
