Tiffany Abell, seventh grade, Smallwood, “Patrick Henry and the American Revolution,” award from the Ella Virginia Houck Holloway Chapter, United States Daughters of 1812;

1832

Ryann Tompkins, second place, seventh grade, Somers, “Anatomy Act of 1832;” and

1877

Peter Luster, third place, seventh grade, St Mary’s Bryantown School, “The Compromise of 1877.”

1906

Joseph Mehall and Kyle Stone, seventh grade, first place, Piccowaxen, “The San Francisco Earthquake of 1906;”

1920

Michaela Raqueno, second place, seventh grade, Mattawoman, “The Prohibition Act of 1920;” and

1926

Zahra Ramakdawala, third place, seventh grade, Henson, “The La Plata Tornado of 1926.”

1958

Our story began in 1958 when the Charles County Community College was established as part of the continuing expansion of the community college in America.

At its inception in 1958, the college was governed by the Charles County Board of Education, with the first classes conducted at La Plata High School in the evenings.

1959

The Orchard Farm School District is a public school district in St Charles County, Missouri that was formed on February 14, 1959.

The first school year serving students began in the fall of 1959, utilizing facilities in three area schools.

1961

Sion Bell, third place, seventh grade, Mattawoman Middle School, “Freedom Riders of 1961.”

1964

Fallon Coles, seventh grade, Somers, “Freedom Summer: June of 1964,” award from the African American Heritage Society of Charles County;

1968

The Friendly Hall Campus, which is now the La Plata Campus, was established in 1968.

2000

On July 1, 2000, the college officially became the College of Southern Maryland (CSM), a regional college serving Calvert, Charles, and St Mary's counties.

2009

Virginia R. McGraw is a retired Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) principal who also served as a teacher and vice principal during her 25-year career with CCPS. She was the 2009 CCPS Principal of the Year, and volunteers with Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church.

2010

Lukas was first elected to the Board in 2010 and is serving in his third term.

2016

He has lived in Charles County for 25 years with his wife, Kim, who is a teacher at the College of Southern Maryland and their son who is a 2016 CCPS graduate.

2018

In April 2018, voters approved a no-tax-increase bond issue to expand two schools (ELC and OFMS), increase security, and update aging infrastructure.
