Jeff Stein, Ph.D., their President and Chief Executive Officer, was CEO of Trius Therapeutics, Inc., a publicly-traded pharmaceutical company, from its founding in 2007 until its acquisition by Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in September 2013. During his tenure, Trius developed the antibacterial drug tedizolid, which received marketing approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June 2014; tedizolid is now marketed under the name Sivextro. From 2005 to 2010, Dr. Stein was a venture partner at Sofinnova Ventures, a biotech venture capital fund. Prior to joining Sofinnova, Dr. Stein was co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at Quorex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 1999 until its acquisition by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in 2005. He has also served as a Principal Scientist with Diversa Corporation and the Agouron Institute. Dr. Stein currently serves on the Board of Directors of Great Lakes Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a private biopharmaceutical company, and Paratek Pharmaceuticals, a publicly-traded biopharmaceutical company. He was also founding Chairman and President of the Antibiotics Working Group, an industry led non-profit organization. Dr. Stein holds a B.S. in marine biology and an M.S. in biology from California State University—Long Beach and a Ph.D. in marine biology from the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Stein conducted his postdoctoral research in bacterial genetics as an Alexander Hollaender Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology.

Taylor Sandison is a Chief Medical Officer at Cidara Therapeutics and is based in Greater San Diego Area. She has worked as VP:Clinical Development at Cidara Therapeutics; Senior Medical Director at MERCK & CO., INC.; and Director, Medical Affairs at Novartis. Taylor studied at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine between 2004 and 2004, University of Washington between 2005 and 2007, and University of Washington between 1997 and 2001.

Paul Daruwala has over 22 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and will lead Cidara’s commercial and business development strategy and execution. Prior to joining Cidara, Mr. Daruwala was at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, where he served as Vice President of the U.S. Viral Hepatitis Franchise and was responsible for leading the U.S. launch in HCV and running the HBV business for BARACLUDE. Prior to Bristol-Myers Squibb, Mr. Daruwala served as Vice President Commercial & Strategic Management at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, where he helped lead the U.S. launch of INCIVEK for HCV. At the time, INCIVEK became the fastest drug launch to achieve blockbuster status. Mr. Daruwala had previously spent 18 years at Merck in U.S. and global commercial leadership roles in antivirals, antifungals, anti-inflammatory products, business development, managed markets and sales management. Among these, he led the global commercialization efforts for the first approved echinocandin antifungal drug, caspofungin acetate (CANCIDAS). Paul received his degree in pharmacy from the University of Kentucky.
