City Gospel Mission company history timeline

1924

Founded by James N. Gamble of Procter & Gamble in 1924, City Gospel Mission helps people who are homeless and hurting break the cycle of poverty and despair … one life at a time.

1938

Henry and Edith Plumer founded the Mission in 1938.

1999

Expansion of the ministry to include a women and children’s shelter finally came to fruition in 1999.

2009

The move, in 2009, from West 8th Street to Bluff Street, brought a change to its name, taken from the sign affixed to the building while on Lower 4th Street, The Gospel Mission.
