To qualify for this signing bonus, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

The City of Costa Mesa also offers a $10,000, one-time signing bonus for qualified Non-Lateral Police Officer applicants. This bonus will be paid out at $3,000 upon hire, $3,000 upon successful completion of the Field Training program, and $4,000 upon completion of probation.

ELIGIBILITY LIST
Candidates must pass all three (3) of the steps listed above to be placed on the City's Eligibility List. The application screening and physical agility test are all qualifying steps (pass/fail). The oral interview evaluation is weighted 100% and determines a candidates' placement on the eligibility list. Eligibility lists are valid for one (1) year from the date they are established unless it is exhausted sooner or extended for an additional period of time.

Under general supervision by an assigned Water System Lead Worker or Water System Supervisor, participates in the work of others in operation and maintenance of assigned section. Currently there are two (2) openings in the Water Distribution Section.
In addition to the above compensation, this position is eligible for certificate level one pay for incumbents that maintain a CWEA Grade 1 at a rate of $115 per month, certificate level two pay for incumbents that maintain a CWEA Grade 2 and/or D2/T2 at a rate of $265 per month, and certificate level three pay for incumbents that maintain a CWEA Grade 3 and/or D3/T3 at a rate of $295 per month.
Under direct supervision an incumbent performs semi-skilled work in the operation and maintenance of assigned section. This position may be assigned to the Water Distribution, Sewer and Storm Water, Water Supply, or Customer Service sections of the Utilities Division of the Public Works Department.
The following examples are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by persons assigned to this classification. Depending on assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Perform tasks related to the basic operation and maintenance of assigned section.
* Utilize adequate and appropriate tools, equipment, and materials for each task assigned; implement necessary changes in work methods, practices, and priorities as directed.

* Conduct timely repair of water distribution system and service line leaks.
* Assist in the coordination and inspection of City-owned water distribution construction activities including City contract and developer work.
* Conduct Underground Service Alert (USA) markings for City-owned utilities.
The preceding duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Certification:

License: Due to the performance of field duties which requires operation of a City vehicle, a valid California Class C Driver's License to carry out the essential functions of the position and an acceptable driving record are required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Employees employed with the City on or after January 1, 2022, in the Sewer and Storm Water section are required to obtain a commercial Class B Driver's license with Air Breaks and Tanker Endorsements within twelve (12) months of appointment. Employees employed with the City on or after January 1, 2022, in the Distribution or Water Supply sections are required to obtain a commercial Class A Driver's license with Air Breaks and Tanker Endorsements within twelve (12) months of appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

THE POSITION:
This is skilled inspection work in securing compliance with all aspects of building, zoning, planning, federal, state, and municipal codes and regulations governing new and existing construction and involving any combination of the following: installation and operation of electrical systems and allied equipment; plumbing, heating, and mechanical installations; building construction, alteration, and repair; and housing compliance investigation. Duties also include the enforcement of all applicable mandated regulations; and performs related duties as required.
Work is performed in both the field and office as it involves physical inspections and the documentation and communication of those inspection results. Structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems are inspected to verify compliance with applicable codes and approved construction documents. An incumbent shall be able to investigate alleged violations and recommend of acceptable alternatives; which meet the intent of all applicable state and municipal codes. Work is subject to general supervision from the Chief of Inspection and periodic checks and reviews by a technical superior.
Building Inspector I: As the first class in this series, incumbents are expected to perform a variety of the more routine and standardized tasks and duties in building inspection work, primarily focused on residential inspections with some limited commercial inspection, under the close supervision of the Chief of Inspection.
Building Inspector II: As the second class in this series, incumbents at this level are distinguished from the Building Inspector I by their performance of the full range of combination inspections (building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical) on a variety of residential and commercial projects and by their depth of knowledge and understanding of the laws, rules, ordinances and code provisions pertaining to building construction. Incumbents at this level are expected to conduct the more advanced and complex multi-family, commercial, and accessibility inspections. Incumbents at this level exhibit a thorough understanding of the California Accessibility Codes (CBC 11a & 11b). Incumbents in this position are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. The ideal candidate must have advanced journey-level light, medium and heavy-duty vehicle repair and maintenance experience, have strong customer service values, and is eager to work as part of a team. Candidates must provide their own basic mechanic hand tools.
About the Division:
Fleet Services provides quality and competitive maintenance services to our customers in a timely, environmentally friendly manner. Fleet Services has a 40-member team, operating out of a 47,000 square-foot, 30 bay repair facility. Fleet Services has an annual operating budget of approximately $17 million and is responsible for purchasing and maintaining all of the vehicles and motorized equipment used by the City of Anaheim.
Additional Compensation Upon Completion of Probationary Period
* Possession of Mechanic Certification pay as a Master Automobile Technician or Master Heavy-Duty Truck Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence shall be in the amount of two hundred dollars ($200) for each successfully completed exam, with an annual maximum of two thousand dollars ($2,000) per Master Certification for Auto/Light Truck Series or Medium Heavy-Duty Truck Series. Employees shall receive an additional two hundred dollars ($200) for each successfully completed exam for a second Master Certification in either Auto/Light Truck Series or Medium Heavy-Duty Truck Series up to a maximum of four thousand dollars ($4,000) for a dual Master Certification in both the Auto/Light Truck and Medium Heavy-Duty Truck Series. In no event shall any employee who is entitled to certification pay under the provisions of this paragraph receive more than four thousand dollars ($4,000) annually. * Fire mechanic certification pay shall be two hundred fifty dollars ($250) for Level I, five hundred dollars ($500) for Level II, and seven hundred fifty dollars ($750) for Level III.
