City of North Royalton company history timeline
The very first family to move here in 1811 was Melzer Clark and his wife Almira Paine, the daughter of a Brecksville land agent.
The ordinance says the City Green -- within a triangular piece of land bordered by Royalton, Ridge and Bennett roads -- was established as a public space soon after North Royalton became a township in 1818.
And there were brothers David and Knight Sprague credited with naming Royalton after their hometown in Vermont, offering up a gallon of whiskey for naming rights. “North” was added to the city’s name in 1885 due to another Royalton in southern Ohio.
On April 4, 1927, the township officially became the Village of North Royalton, and the first mayor, E. C. McCombs, was elected.
The present City Hall was built in 1937.
The turnpike was constructed through the middle of North Royalton in 1955.
Over time, Township Hall became Village Hall, Town Hall, and finally City Hall when North Royalton officially became a city in 1961.
North Royalton schools, with an enrollment of 2,750 in 1987, included 3 elementary, 1 parochial, and 1 high school.
The former library has been serving as the new home of the North Royalton City Hall since 2014.
Memorial Park is a picturesque landmark in the city with the lake and its fountain, the pavilions, tennis courts and the new playground in the background, built in 2015.
City officials want this footprint of the former city hall, razed in 2017, to become a pavilion with an observation deck overlooking the breathtaking views to the south, sometime in the next few years.
The 2018 North Royalton Board of Education includes Vice President Doctor John Kelly, Heidi Dolezal, Anne Reinkober, President Doctor Susan Clark and Jackie Arendt.
In 2018, the city delayed construction of the project because bids came in too high.
