Sealy EDC company history timeline

1900

After considerable time and efforts $1400 were raised by public subscription, $500 was on hand from various functions given by the department, making a total of $1900 available; but the cost of the truck wanted was $2200.

1944

In 1944 the Liedertafel Hall was purchased and with money loaned to the Department by Sealy citizens, the hall was repaired and additions made.

1949

In 1949 a third truck was purchased and a new $26,000 fire station was built.

1979

Since 1979, Texas law has allowed cities to form economic development corporations to attract businesses and create job opportunities.

1989

In 1989, the Legislature gave eligible cities the option of adopting a dedicated sales and use tax to fund many industrial development projects.

1991

Further legislation in 1991 recognized the need of some cities for funds to improve their appeal as places to live, work, and visit.

1997

The City began collecting the additional half percent economic development sales tax effective October 1, 1997.
