The Harm Reduction Peer Recovery Coach, under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Integrated & Behavioral Health, is responsible for providing community-based outreach and harm reduction services in collaboration with Crescent Care and additional partners as part of the Mobile Harm Reduction Unit.
This individual will act as the primary point of contact with partner agencies, and ensure all contractual obligations are met including reaching outcomes expectations and submission of reporting by established deadlines. This individual will work in the community providing outreach, peer support, and referral coordination to substance users in New Orleans.
This individual will coordinate assigned staff, Crescent Care and additional partners to complete late-night outreach events as part of the City's Mobile Harm Reduction Unit.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Act as lead for Mobile Harm Reduction Unit activities by ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations, including meeting or exceeding outcome expectations.
Actively engage with residents, community leaders, and organizations to raise awareness of VOASELA programs and build relationships.
Coordinate with assigned staff, Crescent Care and additional partners to complete outreach events as part of the Mobile Harm Reduction Unit, including late-night events.
Conduct outreach activities, such as distributing information and attending community events.
Provide education on and distribution of Harm Reduction Supplies to community members.
Provide informal peer support to community members who use substances.
Provide information and referrals to community members who use substances.
Accurately record receipt and distribution of Louisiana Department of Health Harm Reduction Site supplies.
Coordinate ordering of harm reduction supplies with the Assistant Vice President of Integrated & Behavioral Health.
Utilize concurrent documentation and record accurate information in the EHR of each person served within 1 business day.
Responsible for ensuring that all policies, procedures and practices of VOASELA and all governmental regulatory agencies are met.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
This position requires knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Lived experience with a substance use disorder diagnosis with at least 12 months (24-36 months or more preferred) of continuous demonstrated recovery. Registered Peer Support Specialist credential required (can be obtained after hire).
Experience working with substance users.
Comfortability working with community members who are actively using drugs and alcohol.
Familiarity with harm reduction interventions, along with trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Advanced computer skills.
Advanced skills within Electronic Health Systems.
Ability to interact with staff at all levels in a respectful manner, remaining flexible, proactive, and task oriented.
Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, accuracy, flexibility, reliability, and prioritizing skills.
