Colonial Hill Baptist Church company history timeline

1896

In 1896, the first service was held in the Baptist Mission, built by Round Hill Baptist Church on the corner of Bancroft Avenue and Jefferson Street.

1897

In March 1897, the trustees of Round Hill Baptist church conveyed the lot and building to the trustees of First Baptist Church of Colonial Beach.

1960

Floyd Wehner was hired as the new pastor in 1960.

1964

The church began meeting on June 28, 1964 in an old house.

Since its founding in 1964, Colonial Hills Baptist Church has stood as a lighthousefor those searching for truth and a welcome refuge to believers in Christ.

1972

A parsonage and new church facility was erected in July of 1972 and the first service of what is now Colonial Hills Baptist Church was held.

Colonial Hills Christian School (founded in 1972) became “The Academy of Arts” and “The Kiddie Academy”. The school trained students to perform dramas as a means of communicating biblical truths.

1976

Colonial Christian School (CCS) opened its doors in the fall of 1976 under the direction of Doctor Wendell Heller and Doctor Richard Hand as a ministry of Northeast Baptist Church.

1977

In the fall of 1977, the school moved across the road into the A-wing rooms of a new building and began adding grade levels each year.

1982

In 1982, the school moved into the B-wing classrooms and added grades 9-12.

1985

Our pastor, Doctor Michael Gray and his wife, Kellie, met on the campus of BobJones University and were married in 1985.

1988

E.L.Cobb was hired as the new pastor in 1988.

1992

In 1992 Doug Klein was hired as pastor.

1997

After meeting with the pulpit committee twice and preaching at the church, Doctor Gray was voted in as the new pastor of CHBC in December 1997.

1998

Doctor Michael Gray has been the senior pastor at CHBC since January 1998.

In 1998 the Heller Building was completed to help meet the growing programs and academic needs of the church and school.

In 1998, Doctor Chavers felt God wanted him to serve full-time with The Academy of Arts.

2003

Deacon Ministry Teams were formed in 2003 to include the Nursing Home, Hospital and Bereavement teams.

2006

May of 2006 the 8:28 Contemporary Service was started, and the Crossfire Band was organized.

2010

The Community Fair was started in 2010 as a big give back to the community with free clothes and food.

2013

CCS is an active member of the Indiana Association of Christian Schools (IACS) and the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS). CCS was granted full accredition status by the American Association of Christian Schools in June, 2013.

The Gospel Explosion began in 2013 at the Town Stage with a variety of musical performances throughout the day.

2014

A significant milestone in Pastor Gray’s life came about on May 10, 2014 when he earned his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana.
