1981

The British Telecommunications Act of 1981 divided the post office into two corporations, one for postal and banking operations and the other for telecommunications.

1982

Government subsidies continued on a declining basis until 1982, after which the United States Postal Service itself no longer received a direct subsidy from Congress.

2000

First-class and marketing mail is dwindling—dropping by 34 percent since 2007.
